Great year for female vocals; Adele, Kate Bush, Marisa Nadler...
overall I liked Opeth, Yuck, Destroyer, Sonic Youth

huge disappointment SWilson and maybe Radiohead.

You don't have to compile a huge list or anything, maybe one album in particular really stuck out, but what do the audiophiles think? 

 


I have yet to check out the rest of this thread but thank you for that Starfker album. It really is amazing and I can easily see how it makes the top of your list. atsmile.gif

It was indeed another great year for music. Even so, the majority of the great discoveries I made this year were released prior to 2011. It seems like that's always the way. Not bad.

 

But here are twelve 2011 releases I fell in love with. In no particular order and with Youtube examples linked for each one...

Colour Tripp by Ringo Deathstarr, and Take Care by Drake were the two that really kind of stuck out the most for me this year

 

 

Great Mass by Septic Flesh

King of Limbs by Radiohead

Deconstruction by Devin Townsend

Cherish the Years by Cold Cave

Atrophy by Baring Teeth

Hurry Up, We're Dreaming by M83

 

 

^ Were other albums that I really enjoyed a lot

 

Really big disappointments were Mastodon and Opeth releases

Space Is Only Noise by Nicolas Jaar

 

His use of vocals, echoes and near-silence is amazing.

There was alot of great music released during 2011! I think one of my favorite albums that came out was "The People's Key" by Bright Eyes.
