i have a budget of £200, and I wanna ask, which bass heavy headphones are the best unamped, for my budget? ive already got the hd25, but the bass seems underwhelming to me..

i heard that the pro700 mk2 is a beast in this category. can you guys recommend me any other headphones other than the pro700?

and pls dont recommend me ultrasone, i dont like how they sound.. the s-logic system really sounds weird to me ph34r.gif

How's the clarity on the mids and highs of the HD25 seem to you?  Would you care if the headphone wasn't as clear?

Try the DT770 pro 80Ω.  Contrary to their 80Ω rating they're decently easy to drive.  Later down the line you can get something like a Fiio for them for additional ampage and bass boostage.  You could also just get a Fiio and use hardware bass boost on the HD25 as well.  :)

Re: bassy headphones, budget

Bass from the DT770 80 ohm will disappoint from a portable source, especially if he is underwhelmed by the HD25.

Pro700 mk2 is a good choice...was going to recommend Ultrasone. :P VMODA Crossfade LP2 will definitely rattle your face.

Another choice would be amping your HD25, although I would say look at Digizoid Z02 rather than any FiiO if bass is what you need.

Unless there's some major impedance mismatching, amping something won't give you more quantitive bass, it'll just make the bass tighter and slightly more impactful.  I think what he means is using the bass boost on said devices.

I own the Ultrasones and the V-Moda. For portable, lower power sources, the V-Modas will, in fact, rattle your ears and cheek bones. darthsmile.gif

The Ultrasones are cleaner, tighter bass, also very good punch- but amplification IS recommended. I was disappointed UNTIL I put my little $25 Fiio on there, then all was EXCELLENT. The V-Modas low end CAN overwhelm the lower mids on occasion, while the Ultrasones stay cleaner with better high end and good transients on the treble. Some say the high end is too bright- for my middle aged abused ears (when I was younger)- I find the brighter high end refreshing.
