Which headphones

I was about to buy the beats by dre pro when I kept second guessing due to people saying there is better for cheaper. I searched the forums and see everyone mentioning different headphones but never why its better.

The headphones mentioned that I thought I would look into were the hifi 780 all good reviews on amazon and still just as stylish as the beats.

Didn't really like the look of the sennheiser but always open for suggestions on which one stacks up but not the 650 I am not looking to spend over $300. I know the beats are $400 I do have amazon gift cards to use but everyone keeps saying there's better for cheaper so I am looking for cheaper.

The grados to small like the beats solo that barely feet on your ear. and I didn't like the look of the d2000.

It will be mostly for ipod use and I would also use it when on the computer. I like to listen to pop and a little bit of rap and techno.

Well for something better than the Beats Studio Pro's look in the $60-150 range.

I like the hifi 780 kept looking at it all night and reading reviews and youtube videos but there wasn't much videos. does anyone own these? How are they?

I find it ironic you are criticizing this forum for not providing enough reasons why some headphones are better than others when you are making your decision based on looks.  Sennheisers don't look good.  You don't like the look of D2000s.  ROFL, and all those headphones probably better than your Beats too if you want to hear something other than muddy bass.

not criticizing sorry if it was taken that way  just wanted some info  and not basing on looks just personal opinion on looks but i want good bass  i listen to a lot of pop and sometimes rap

Go for the Pro 900s?

With just an Ipod, pro900 ll not be at its best.

If he want punchy bass with just an ipod, HFi580. HFi780 if you want a more refined and detailled sound with high quality bass (not quantity).

Just my opinion, in music, what is the most important, the quality of the music or the look of the speakers? :)

Normally I'd agree with you, but I found some Sennheiser HD 598's for about $168 shipped and almost pounced on it until I saw the maroon ear-cups and yellow-beige plastic. I understand it's trying to look vintage and therefore "good quality", but DAMN they are ugly.

I like them, but if i found them ugly with the same sound, I would have still bought them.

Like all my headphones and speakers, i privilege the sound to the aesthetic, but i agree, if you can have both, its better, lol.

i understand about having quality over style  im just saying it would be a bonus if they looked nice  and i was looking at the hfi 780 mostly for ipod and some comouter use  the reason i dont want the snnheisers is because arent the open end pronee to leak music

Watch this video. I used to think they were ugly until I saw it. Now I think they are the sexiest headphones around lol.

For me I guess just seeing them on someone made me like them. And, afterall they are open, you will not be using them in public so who cares what they look like? smily_headphones1.gif

So just to confirm, Sennheiser HD 598 at $168 is probably the best headphones at that price compared to the ATH-M50, Shure 840, Grado SR80 and the like right?

OP, the question you're asking needs to be qualified. If you're looking for bass, you need to decide where on the scale between quality and quantity you lie. Do you want quality bass (as in the ability to tell a difference between a 200Hz signal and a 230Hz signal), or are you leaning more towards quantity (the experience of "feeling" the bass booming in your head). I'm not saying that there's no headphones that have both of these (just look at the LCD2, it's a great bassy headphone), but in your price range there will be some sort of trade-off.

Moving on a scale of quantity-based to quality-based bass, one of the first half-decent headphones that comes up is the Sony XB500. It's very bassy and stylish (to some), but loses accuracy in the bass due to its boominess. Next along the line is the Sony XB700, which trades some bass impact for better mids, highs, and more definition. Then, the audiophile (quality-centric) bass starts. The HFI-580 is an oft-recommended bassy headphone, and the HFI-780 is not bassy by a "boomy" standard but has very accurate bass.

I think a proper trade-off for you, just from your previous posts, would probably be the HFI-580. It provides plenty of impact and quantity, but doesn't make everything else sound crappy and also has plenty of accuracy in the bass, especially coming from the horrid Beats.

Hope this helps!

Sincerely,

What's the ddifference between  the 580 and 780?  Are you saying the 780 is not quantity bass but 580 is?
