Upgrading from Sennheiser 280's

Thread Starter

I've been looking around to upgrade my headphones from the 280's I use now for personal music use at my computer. There are some various models from Sennheiser (555,558,598), AKG (K702), Audio-Technia (M50s), etc. but it's really difficult to make a decision when there really isn't anywhere to give these cans a try first.

So, I'm on here to look for your opinions. I listen to various genres, and not opposed to getting a headphone amp. Closed/open-air doesn't really matter either.

Budget: Up to $300

Recommendations greatly appreciated..

Thanks!

I suggest the Ultrasone HFi-780s. These are very similar to the M50s but look much nicer, imo. They have better bass too.  You will not NEED an amp but they will greatly benefit from one. I suggest the Fiio E10, or a HiFiMan tube amp, since these headphones are only $150 on Amazon.

These can be a bit uncomfortable but once you've worn them for a while they don't squeeze your head as hard. You can also stretch them out over a box for a night to loosen them up faster.

The 780s comes stock with a 1meter cord. This is nice for portability. It also comes with a 4meter extension for at home or studio use. (one of the best features imho.)
