Just curious to find out what are the thoughts on the Headamp pico/pico slim as I don't see people talking about it much anymore, personally I haven't heard it but I do like the look redface.gif but what worries me is that everyone seems to be talking more of other brands like Fiio or iBasso which are cheaper in comparison, are they not competitive anymore in terms of sound and price? Or just that it's just normal that the cheaper amps are more talk about?

Funny you should ask. I have one of the Pico DAC/Amp combos and have been using and loving it for just over 3 years. While it is a great looking and sounding DAC/amp, I suspect the proliferation of devices that are both less expensive and still very respectable in sound quality has lessened the Pico's market appeal.

That said, I still am amazed at what this tiny device can do. I typically use it with my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 250 ohm cans, which are slightly harder to drive than the majority of lower impedance headphones out there. I would not try driving something with an impedance of over 300 ohms with the Pico as you won't get a great deal of volume from it. That said, it's amazingly portable and great sounding, both as just a headphone amp using the analog input and as a USB DAC for my Macbook Pro and iPad 2.

I have just encountered my first problem with the Pico - it appears the battery has died. I have sent an email to Headamp asking about a replacement battery so for now it's going to be relegated for use only when I can plug it into the external charger. Hopefully it won't take too long to get a replacement battery.

Let me know if you have any specific questions about the unit.

Thanks for your reply, I have been using the iQube for quite a while and toying with the idea of changing, no particular reason just the thought of changing it. redface.gif I do find the iQube not the best choice for inefficient headphones and thought that perhaps the Pico might do a better job but from your comment it seem that the Pico or slim would do better with my AKG K3003.

I sure hope you get your battery replaced soon. smile.gif
