"Audiofile Bass"? - Page 2

Ok so I'm still unsure what to go for, I've never really had a good pair of headphones before so only thing I could compare too is my mates studio beats. Maybe the ATH PRO700MK2 would suit me? what about Shure SRH 750DJ?

So can you really feel the bass with the HFI 580 it's not just technical? Don't know if I can get those in the UK.

I'm also interested in the ultrasone dj1 can someone compare the bass quantity/quality to my current DT990?

The midrange gets a little buried under the treble/bass, and the treble is very revealing.

Really strange, because one of the strenght of the Ultrasone is that frequencies don't overlaps eatch other and Pro2900 is one of the best example from the brand imo.

You used Pro2900 with an amp?

Lets be honest here. If this is your first pair of decent headphones, chances are, you wont appreciate good QUALITY bass or lots of QUANTITY of bass. It's simply a fact; you wont know how to appreciate good bass until you've heard lots of bass, litte of bass, bad bass, good bass, and then took a handful of months heavily using headphones to be able to distinct good bass from bad bass.

The thing is, the more quantity bass you get, the more possible it is for it to overshadow the mids and treble, while good QUALITY bass slots in perfectly fine mid and treble.

Here, the quality over quantity saying isnt true. It's what you want; neither is true, but newbies generally appreciate quantity bass over quality bass; atleast at this stage.

my d2000s have good enough bass. they're not as muddy as some people portray them to be. i'm sure the d7000s sound alot better though but probably sacrifice some bass impact for more quality.

might have to buy the d7000 someday.

I don't see the muddiness in the D2000's bass either, not when amped anyways.  I think a lot of people just don't like one lick of bass quantity that's above neutral.

ikr. i learn to appreciate it all though.

my lcd-2 have amazing bass despite the fact that is isn't heavy like other headphones. same as the k701, it has very good bass, the 2nd second best bass i've heard out of any headphone (obv lcd-2 have the best).

and like my rs1s, their bass is very natural despite not extending as deep as with other headphones, however it still sounds great. and they are extremely punchy. the midbass on them is insane, perhaps even more than my pro 900s, this is with the flatpads.

M-Audio Q40, boosted bass you can feel and extends very well but doesn't crap over the mids either and the rest of the range is very even. First bassy headphone I haven't needed to EQ. :)
