Ultimate Ears TriplFi10 Equivalent in the Headphone world?

Hi,

I enjoy the Triplefi10s  but can't fit them without a great deal of gymnastics.  But the sound is perfect.  Which portable headphone or full size best duplicates this sound?

What I enjoy most are its wide soundstage, the open and airy feel (I love that air!), and the sparkle in the highs, the tight bass (although it could be more slamming and I would not complain).  The mids do not sound recessed to me; rather, the entire phone sounds very balanced and smooth to me.  It does not sound analytical nor cold to me.

Thanks!

I think the TF10 sounds most like the Ultrasone line, to my ears with their V-shaped frequency curves. The bass is robust and punchy, the highs are aggressive and border on harsh, the mids are recessed and distant. Look to the HFI-580 for a TF10-like sound.

Do these ultrasones have the open and magically airy quality of the TripleFi10s as well?  Or is it "easy" and commonplace for headphones by virtue of their larger drivers to beat the soundstage, airiness, openness of any IEM?

Hmm how about the Grado 325 or Shure 840?  Also if you don't like the fit you could always get them reshelled atsmile.gif

I wouldn't have even thought of Grado if you hadn't mentioned it. I am now wanting to compare the 325 to my TF10.

The 325i had great air and separation, and probably best front/back imaging I've heard. Granted this was from expensive sources and directly AB'ed with a 125i... but I have yet to hear Sonny Rollins like that since that day at my local hifi store.

My TF10 hasn't performed like that, unamped out of my iPhone 4 with other genres. This could warrant some experimentation.
