i need a CHEAP cable

hey guys, i'm planning on re-cabeling my Senn hd428s. this thin cord doesn't seem like it's industry leading stuff (neither is what i would probably be getting but that's not the point.) and i'm always afraid oi'm going to break it, so i would like to know if there are any "good" cables out there for say $40? i'm getting a portable amp soon (these are my school headphones) and that's all i'm going to have left.

oh yea, and a link would be wonderful, i've been looking all day and i can find what i'm looking for nor can i decypher anything about price. (one silver cable says $.79 and the next one says $300. is one per foot and the other a set length of cable?)

thanks in advance guys

ps. i'm probably going to recomend the same cable to my friend who just bought 448s.

I wrote a huge reply but explorer crashed so short version:

It's the hd428 not HD800, silver cables are way out of perspective IMHO, go for some solid copper at max. I've silver speaker cables and I will go for OFC/OCC copper in the future, silver is not that good depending on the headphones/speakers.

I have the hd448, cable has broken 3 times, soldering is very difficult with these cables. Don't fix what isn't broken!

The veins are about the same as of the apple buts(very thin), on the photo next to the plug. Also on the photo my frankensteijn HD448. If you cut you cable there is no way back.

As much for the portable amp: do you want good sound @ home or on the move:S? If you have problems with sound it might be the player. The ipods sound very very bad. Buy an equalizer, Eq-u for instance, go to headroom and flatten the response with that data. That will do a lot of good with these headphones. Anything other than ipod will be able to drive your headphones just fine, don't get hyped up by portable amps or exotic cables. If you want a upgrade get new headphones, ath-m50 or whatever. That's what I would do.

You don't NEED a new cable (referring to the title)
