SS / Tube amp for ya'll?

It really comes down to what you want and personal preferences. 

I fully admit that I started with tubes because I thought the idea of a tube amp was cool and I liked the way they look.  People will argue either side quite a bit but it all depends on what you want and that's it.  Tubes are nice because you can just change tubes and get a different sound which is especially nice if you get new phones and want to match the sound better.  Some people just like tube rolling. You'll always hear SS sounds like this or that - but the designer can make a SS amp (or tube amp) sound any way they want to so the point seems pointless to me.  You'll also hear that tube amps are bad for low impedance phones but that's also false.  They can be, but the fact that it's a tube amp doesn't tell you anything.  Being OTL is important though.  Tube amps can also be neutral and detailed which is why people may choose to go SS.  There is definitive reason to go one over another.  Hybirds combine the best qualities of each and I have a hybrid but it's only because the tube amp I was interested in happened to be a hybrid - it wasn't something I was looking for.  Though they will normally have fewer tubes which is really nice when you're paying for new tubes. (though I new tube may only be $20 - or it could be $500).
