I do believe that this is my first post here.
I'm starting to do research for a future project I want to do. I want to make my own dynamic headphones. The cups will be carved out of some sort of hardwood (maple might be my wood of choice, although I'm not sure yet. The main problem I have is how to build the drivers. I want to build large drivers (maybe 50 mm). I have a pair of 40mm Skull Candy headphones and apparently they're not that great when compared to Sennheiser, Grado, and the other super-expensive headphone types.
I want to build my own drivers but it might be impractical. I wonder if there's a place to buy drivers for headphones. I like to go with 32 ohms because it's a standard impedance among headphones and I don't want some odd impedance type like 120 ohms...
For the record, I did see the thread by the guy making his own electrostatic headphones with a CNC machine. I liked that a lot. He should go into business. Still, I don't care much for electrostatic and want to stay with magnetic.
Any advice would be helpful. I plan to wire the headphones with CAT-5 cable innards (4 conductors per phone) and spend a little time making them.
