Weird... when I see them wearing beats I look at them as poor teens, or someone couldn't afford a good set of headphone.

Actually it looks more retarded than one without the headphone, spending $300 just on neck-phone is pretty silly. :)

And trust me, I owned beats, (studio and pro), I was amazed at first then now I am laughing. Lucky I manage to sell them all to high-school kids.

But you can't wear HD800 etc. in the streets. Beats were created for portability. Light, flashy and comfortable.

Are you sure the reason of it was because of the headphones? etysmile.gif

So if one does not wear the Beats people think they are wearing random junk because Dre didn't endorse them and when someone does people stares at them like its retarded to do so ?

Whenever I see people wearing beats I instantly think in my head "The *****!?" for some reason. And when I see people wearing Sennheisers,Audio Technicas or Sonys I think "smart boy :)" at the person. Not many Grados,AKGs and Denons users in Singapore, only the first 3.

On my way to work I often see this dude with an m50 and get really excited for some reason k701smile.gif Probably cuz that's the first "expensive" headphone I've seen a person wear in public besides beats.

On topic, the beats are most definitely not downright BAD.As many earlier posts are saying they are just ridiculously overpriced, the beats cost more than TWICE as much here in Singapore.Solos = $490,Studios = $799,Pros = $899!! After auditioning a pair of studios at a legit retailer, they sound like 70% price for branding,25% price for the headphones and 5% price for the packaging(Cuz they have some amazing packaging tongue.gif)

WOW, and I thought the prices in Australia was bad. (Solo=$300 Studios=$500 Pro=$700)

I came here thinking the title of the thread asked "Are Beards Really that Bad?" and was about to come to the defense of my girlfriend's pelvis.  Never you mind; carry on.

Try Ultrasone Edition 8 buddy ;)

By the way, IMO, beats are not comfortable at all, I bet you didn't actually try HD800 or T1. ?

honestly to me? they were pretty bad, but mostly cause we all know how much they cost. I have only tried the beat studio non pro.
It was just the sound signature, bass over everything. I eq'd the bass down and it actually did make it sound much better. But without eq'ing, the bass takes away some mid range, and makes the highs sound almost un natural.

the beats are better than alot of cheaper headphones, but also cheaper headphones are better than the beats.

beats solo = terrible. rolled off on both ends, muddy and veiled, congested and crap sounding. definitely a waste of 200 bucks.

beats studio = fun punchy bass, but still lacking low end and lacking detail/texture. mids are ok but recessed. rolled off highs.

Putting aside all the douchebags that use these headphones, are they really THAT bad? They are overpriced, I get that, but to me they sound like they should get a little more respect as a quality headphone. Am I wrong?

I have not owned the Beats.  But my roommate has one.  And it's really ironic how bad the build quality is. Made by Monster, known for audio cables, but his cable at the plug is fraying and will fall off soon.  I noticed some of his friends had the same problems as well and had to get the plug replaced.  Also isolation is terrible on them.  When you hold the Beats in your hands, they feel flimsy.  Also the sound is a bit dark for me, definitely as others said, a hip-hop headphone if all you care about are drum machines and from crappy producers who gained their fame from a garage.

Also you need batteries for Beats... and that built in amplifier is terrible.

Beats bashing is because of this:

This forum, sound comes first before everything.  You've probably seen the ugly trashcans people put on their head to get the best sound.  The beats have very bad sound, $100 sound at best some would say.  I wouldn't pay any amount of money for the sound those things produce.  I'd rather use my $15 junker earbuds.

Beats do not have good sound compared to the standard here.

Fashion is probably a very small amount of what many are looking for here.  I'm actually pretty into fashion, and I still find the beats to be really gawdy, although they could probably go nice with certain outfits.  It's just a trend.

Also consider how long people have been into headphones on here and probably want to talk to people aboout headphones and then all of a sudden like, maybe they could strike a conversation up with a random person on the street, and then they just get completely shot down by an uninformed person because they do not own the beats  by dre which have the best sound according to them.  What comes after is nerdrage on the head fi forum.

The battery is for active noise cancelling, not an amp.

Regardless, you can't run them without batteries.
