Upgrading entire audio system: Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer - Page 2

All nice to know, of course, but I just want a new sound card, since the XtremeGamer is only a hair above mediocre. I don't want to complicate my system with too many external devices if I can avoid it.

Five days ago Asus showed off a new sound card, The ROG, like the Essence STX, but can do up to analog 7.1 speaker, not sure on the price or when it comes out.

It looks like it is designed to attract gamers.

Oh you mean the Phoebus?

That does look like a sexy card. Notable quotes from the article:

"On the inside, it offers an output SNR up to 118dB for the speaker out connection while also packing a headphone connection with amplifier that’s able to deliver up to 110dB of powerful audio at 600 ohms to users ears with minimal distortion."

"...the Xonar Phoebus includes the latest Dolby Home Theater V4.0 and GX3.0 gaming audio engine to ensure true-to-life sound is replicated accurately."

This attachment offers a shielded way of plugging in your headphones from the front or side or any easy-to-access space. The 6-pin PCI-E power connector for the headphone amp suggests it's gonna be a powerful one.

I want it. I really want it.

Yep, the Xonar Phoebus, my dumb brain fooled me into thinking ROG.

I put up a new thread solely for the discussion of this card:

Otherwise, I think that mostly answers all my questions, huh.
