Denon AHD5000 Fiio E9 High or Low Gain setting

Couldn't find the answer to this elsewhere, so sorry if it's already been answered, but does anybody have any suggestions on whether it's best to have the Fiio E9 on low or high gain when paired with the Denon AHD5000? The E7 is also being docked on the E9.

Thanks.

Use low gain, or even just feed the D5000 from the E7, which is better suited for low impedance headphones.

Listen to both and use the one that you like the sound of better.

Very best,

I was just going over this very issue.  From what found searching through the forums, most people recommended the low gain setting.  I tried both and was kind of digging the high gain more.

so...iIm sure that wasn't remotely helpful to you:)

Thanks for that info, I'll try it just with the E7. Strangely I haven't heard of anybody else preferring that over the E7/E9 combo.

Yeah came to the same conclusion. The high gain setting does have more punch I think, but not sure if it distorts the sound at all.

The D7000 sounds noticeably better off the E9 than on the E7 alone. Denons benefit from powerful amps, though not in a huge way.

I personally feel low gain to sound cleaner and more balanced, while high gain sounds more dynamic. I think hard to drive headphones could benefit from the high gain.

Whatever gets you more at around the 10-11 o clock position is optimal. Fiio states that the E9 sounds it's best between 9-12.

Not in my experience.
