EQ for Panny HTF600

I just got the htf600's in the mail from amazon today for 30 bucks :) i was wondering if anyone here has experience EQing them if so, what are your recommended settings? if it helps i'd like a punchy bass, with good highs and mids..so the xb500's but with better mids and highs.

I read one post on a thread here that said it benefits from a flat EQ but never heard anything more after that, so im not too sure and would like a little more info on it.

Thanks

The bass will probably never be punchy, the bass response on those headphones is inherently slow, but you can somewhat remove some of the mid-bass leak if you were to equalize down near the 100hz area. You'll sacrifice some of the warmth in the sound, though.

You could also try equalizing up near 2khz and 4khz to make the percussion come forward more. Some equalizing in the higher treble like 6khz+ will improve overall definition of the sound, but you'll run the risk of some sibilance.

You can EQ up bass, and it will provide some better bass impact, but it will moreso give you louder bass than give you bass impact.  Also, the louder your bass, the less appealing your mids and highs come.  You really can't have both worlds unless you get a different headphone.

rather than punchy can i get a smooth bass with these headphones?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by a smooth bass.  What would you describe the bass you're hearing right now?

bass now is a tad muddy for most songs,  bu twhen the song calls for hard hitting punchy bass (dub step) i can hear it try but fail and its almost  50% white noise mixed with an attempt at bass...but this is probably something i cant EQ out huh? frown.gif

im really just looking for some EQ recommendations that brings out the best of these cans, at this point i dont want to get too picky, since ive been struggling to find a good eq searching the forum.

Muddiness should go down if you equalize down in the 70-120hz area. I'd give it a shot.

I was listening to coldplay and every "sh" sound the singer makes is a bit piercing, ive been playing with the eq, but i cant figure out a specific hz that takes that edge off, it seems like all the higher ranges combined do a bit..does anyone know what exact frequency i can lower to help? my eq has the following:

31

62

125

250

500

1k

2k

4k

8k

Thanks!

I'm really not certain if what you're experiencing is either a recording issue of an issue with the speed of the panny's bass.  White noise sounds like it's either the recording at fault, an amp/dac at fault, or the headphone just can't play bass low enough.  Coldplay themselves aren't exactly renown for having warm recordings.  One thing's for certain.  If the panny brings out sibilance in a recording, the DT990 will most certainly destroy the recording.

What songs in particular are you using for the bass?

Maybe try some songs like these in iTunes preview or other quality preview:

Flux Pavilion: Normalize to test sizzly highs and bass punch

James Blake: Limit to Your Love for low bass impact

Trentemøller: Moan for your average subwoofer type bass centered around 40-50hz.

The sibilance you're experiencing is usually centered around the 8khz range.

Unfortunately I can't find it on iTunes or Amazon.  Whatever yotube vids and/or files I download of it sound like they have absolutely no bass to speak off, not to mention a very distorted sound-- to the point of definitely sounding deliberate.  You definitely won't get punchy bass out of something like that.

Any other songs in particular?

atm nothing comes to mind that very bassy on my playlist, but i listened to coldplay again lowering the eq on 8khz and it got a lot better, thanks!

Try any of the tracks I listed and see if the bass comes through.
