I have used iMacs for about 6 years. I have always felt they make great vehicles for home audio listening. I have about 1.3TB of music on a new 2 TB iMac 27in that I got in September. Almost instantly I noticed how noisy it is compared to my other computers. With any application going it sounds like a coffee percolator. I even get the blurp blurp when nothing is going on. Since I listen to music on it, both with open HPs and speakers I find this incredibly annoying for a $2000+ machine. I called Apple Care who had me do a few things and agreed it was hardware and not software but only offered up that I take it to an Apple Store for a Genius to look at. Lugging a 27 inch iMac into a mall was painless to say the least but I did it. Of course with about 100 people in the store I could barely hear the Genius. He offered to take it in back but of course I could not go with him. He came back and said he couldn't hear anything. This guy was doing some other really stupid stuff like trying to find Disk Utility in iTunes??? I really don't think he did anything with it in the back, not to mention he didnt know my password so how did he even get it back on? He basically he sent me home and said there is nothing wrong with the computer. He ran a diagnostic too I guess. I agree that the computer is probably not failing but it is ridiculously loud. Has anyone else had this issue with the newest iMacs, and what can I do about it? As I type this it is gurgling away.
Any help would be appreciated.
