Based on your description it sounds like they were chock full of ear funk.  

 

This type of earpad material could maybe work if you had drivers similar to those in the ATH-AD700's.  They're basically going to be open front.

Believe it or not I've been seeing a lot of HD 201 and HD 428. They are cheaper Sennheiser's but they are still Sennheiser's...

Just witnessed a mind baffling conversion!!!!!

This kid went from Beats by Dre Pros to another pair of Beats by Dre Pros to Denon D-700.

I would never walk around with those things on my head. They are downright massive. Not to mention too expensive to be shoved in a backpack.

Funny. My little brother going to High School noticed the EXACT same phenomenon. I was raving to him about V-modas when I found them a few months ago, and he said after break, v-moda's were all he saw on campus.

the popularity of Monster has it's own reason. Beats definitely looks sexy and a lot of people see it as one of the most important factor while choosing headphones, or simply because Kobe Bryant use Beats as well.

Its good to see that people are finally adopting headphones that aren't Beats by Dr. Dre.

Where i'm from, having Beats by Dr. Dre makes you someone of high stature (i know its a little weird but its true)

Someone for theirs headphones? That's worse than liking someone for their car. It seems kids at my school who are Beats fanboys say they look sexy and have the most bass. I have to agree, they look nice, but they are cheap plastic and every time they fold they sound like they are going to snap. They do have a lot of bass, too much and not tight. People also, which is really sad, don't extend the strap and let half their ears dangle out because they don't like the way the metal looks. Some people think the studios are better than the pros! They enlightened just laugh because they know that their cans sound better for half the price.

Well, I tested a pair of Beats a while back at Hot Topic or something and thought they were OK, thought the same way about AE2s when I tested a pair at the PX recently. Beats and Bose AE2s are alright, they're not absolutely god-awful like Apple iBuds, but they're nothing I would personally buy or recommend either.

 

Prefer either Sony, Senn, Koss, or AT.
