Closed cans around $500

Hi,i have been doing some research for about half a month now and have decided it was time to ask some questions!

I am looking for a pair of closed can's around $500 that are good for drum and bass, i have listened to the AH-D5000 and i like them allot except for the amount of bass they produce, i also had the opportunity to try out the Grado GS1000I and i know there in a completely different range but i loved how proportion they were compared to the AH-D5000. I am also considering the pro 900 as an alternative.

Any advice or suggestions on this topic would be greatly appreciated.

For percussion I really enjoy the AKG Q701 and DT990 ( 25 Ohm ).

D5000's had not enough bass or too much bass for you?

Sorry i should have stated that i only mention the grado's because of how they sounded.

the AH-D have a tolerable amount of bass just was wondering if there was anything more neutral sounding.

If you really like D5000, buy itbiggrin.gif

Pro900 is an excellent headphone, but not a good all rounder compared to D2000 (then D5000).

If you wanted an open headphone, I would have said Pro2900, fantastic with drum, voice, bass...

I like the idea of the pro 900 being cheaper and i would most likely go blue dragon with them.

LiquidSpace, can you be more specific (..."tolerable" amount of bass?)?  I'm guessing you felt the D5000 had too much bass (since you ask for something more neutral)?  The Q701 is indeed an open set (with hardly any bass, to my ears...but "neutral" to many others).  You can sometimes score a D7000 for around $575 and they may have just the right bass for you (a bit tighter than the D5000).  Have not heard the Pro900, so won't comment on them.

But Pro900 isn't neutral, its a V shaped sound signature.

You can also buy the Pro900 balanced version, lol.

What i meant by tolerable bass was i tried them and i liked them but then i tried the grado gs 1000I and i really liked them. what i guess I'm trying to say is i want good representation of the sound not artificial representation. hope this helps:)

The problem is that the best natural representation is generally with open headphones, not closed imo.
