Best custom IEM for rock music

I am finally inching towards getting my first customs! However, the variety seems overwhelming and new contestants appear all the time. So maybe somebody can give me a hand. My main listening is rock, a little rockabilly, rap, post-rock, post-metal mixed in. Out of my current IEMs, SM3 is by far my favorite. I also like FX700 quite a bit for some extra lower end, but it is probably as much bass as I can tolerate. I had Sure 535s, but did not like them too much. My sources currently are ipod touch 6G and sony X1060, but I may eventually get a higher end DAP. Finally, the budget anywhere up to ~1.1K $. Any advice much appreciated.

The Westone ES5 are best match for these genres music and they sound amazingly detailed yet offers mid centric fun soundsignature with deep punchy bass. The others IEMs like JH16Pro, Heir Audio 8A are recommended.

Thanks! Reviews do sound like something that would really work. I wonder if anyone actually compared them with Heir Audio 8A. They sound similar but significantly more expensive plus the possible shipping hassles.

You and I are in the same boat.  I have the 535 and FX700 but have never heard the SM3.  There are things that I like a lot about the 535, but it seems to have an almost total lack of real presence down low...don't get me wrong you can tell that there is bass, but it just doesn't feel right to me most of the time.  For myself I have narrowed it down to the Merlin or the MG6PRO I think because I am now paranoid about the type of bass response I will get from an armature(thanks Shure), but I have also read a lot about the ES5 and the Heir 8A.
