My Asus Essence STX caught fire ...

Hello,

I recently bought an Asus Essence STX. I installed it on a PCI Express slot on my Asus P8P67 Pro. Then I tried to install the drivers and it reminded me that I had to connect it to my PSU first (Silverstone Strider + 1000W). When I did, I booted the PC and the card immediately caught fire.

Does anyone know what happened ?

Faulty card or PSU ? Incorrectly connected power cable (should not be possible in theory, though) ?

You just told us. It caught fire! tongue.gif

Really though, it could have been anything mentioned above. Silverstone makes some good psu's so I might look at the card first.

So how did you put this fire out? Did you get an extinguisher and paint the pc with it?

I just turned everything off and it stopped. Thankfully my PC is ok. I was worried about my graphics card for a second.

I really hope it's just a faulty card. When I get a new one I'd probably kill myself if this happened again. Which is why I wonder if I did something wrong.
