For a while now I've been researching different headphones and thinking of upgrading from my Sennheiser HD600's to something better but then I started to think well maybe I should possibly be considering an upgrade of my source. I've been using the same CD player now for almost 10 years, a Music Hall MMF CD-25. At the time I was advised that it was a great bang for your buck CD player. My question is whether or not the HD600's are scalable enough to warrant a source upgrade. Also, most of the music I listen to is unavailable on Hi Def. digital formats like SACD and the other format that was competing with it so regular CD is what I will most likely be listening to and Vinyl is out of the question for the time being. So I guess what I'm asking is how much more SQ can be obtained from regular CD players? What are some good values and performers that slot in between my current player and players up to about 2k?. Any ideas? Would opting for a better CD player make more sense then buying a fancy new set of cans that may be held back by my current source.
