Humming noise when using microphone

Hi Guys!

 

I have a Sony Vaio F laptop with a ASUS Vulcan headset(analog)

 

Whenever I talk on the microphone, the person im talking to hear a loud humming noise(It almost overpowers my voice)

Whenever I UNPLUG the AC adapter, the buzzing goes away......

 

I think its either a ground loop problem or some sort of interference from within my computer......

 

I have bought an USB sound card (Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Go! Pro), but the humming occurs on that as well :(

 

I also bought a different AC adapter, that has one of those circular filters on it, but it didnt help.

 

Both of the AC adapters only have 2 prongs that go into the outlet (which I think is bizarre?)

 

I tested the headset in my brothers HP laptop, and it works fine on his (yet his AC adapter does have 3 prongs AND the filter)

 



I am about to pull my hair out, as I have been frantically searching around trying to fix this issue, but so far unsucceful :(

 

ANY input/help/suggestions is GREATLY appreciated!!

It is most likely a grounding problem.  Without an earth ground to the PSU on your laptop the main ground plane becomes subject to noise.  That is most likely why it works without noise on your bro's laptop.  You need to have a better earth ground to fix the issue.

To have a better earth ground.. does that mean a new AC adapter? or what?

I would guess it's more likely the high frequency switching circuits in the power supply they produce a lot of noise on the DC output. That noise ends up in your USB bus and other components in your computer and produces noise. I don't personally feel it is necessarily good for the computer itself anyways.

A 3-prong AC adapter should do the trick.
