I have a Dell XPS laptop and when I plug my headphones into the jack, the IDT Audio HD sound panel comes up and allows me to use the software to change how the sound sounds like. I can change things like the SRS TruBass, SRS Definition, SRS center, Space and Focus. Changing these parameters significantly alters how the sound sounds like through the headphone.
Is there anyway I can know what the "true" un-software-altered sound of the headphones are? Do audiophiles use this feature?
EDIT: I feel like after tweaking with some of the settings, the music sounds "fuller," but it's hard to pinpoint what exactly is different. Is there a disadvantage to using this software compared to just getting better amps/DAC/headphones?
