*Solved* Did I just got defective pair of Ultrasone HFI-2400?

*SOLVED*

Hiya,

First day of use with these and sounds like these are faulty or something. Have been using Sennheiser HD555 for 3-4 years with my Denon AV Receiver and now using these. The difference is unreal... could it be just lack of use (lack of burn in)?

Symptoms:

-Music sounds almost like two metals clanging together

-Depth is gone

-In movies if music is playing while ppl talking, you can see mouths moving and subs rolling, but no sound comes out from the speaking O_o

Could it be some kind of setting is off or wth? 555 goes just as always with same setup...

Sounds like the plug isn't in all the way, or you've got surround decode on with two channel music.

OTOH, I think most Ultrasones suck ... so there's that.

Plug is all the way (in phones & AVR), using DTS Neo 6, Dolpy PLII, 5 Channel stereo, Direct... no huge difference :( (If thats even what u meant)

No difference if plugged directly to PCs sound card.

Strange, probably a faulty headphone if you have this problem with different amps. HFi2400 is relatively hard to drive but its not these symptoms.

Dif reasons:

Wrong settings

Faulty headphones

Need Burn-in...if you still dislike them Ultrasone is not for you. triportsad.gif

Thanks for the replies guys.

Well I can't say if dislike, cause can't hear people speak in movies, so... :D

Seems like there is some connection problem in the headphones side (not AVRs side) jack, looses right side momentarily.

If I put volume way up high, I can hear distant whispers from the actors mouth.......

The plug has to be jammed way up there very forcefully before you start twisting it, and then twisted very tight. You can think it's solidly in there when it's not. I have seen several posts like yours in the past couple years, and the person always realizes they didn't actually have the plug all the way inserted and twisted fully. I'm not saying you did it wrong, but you may want to just try again to make sure.

Thanks priest for thinking & writing that! It was true, I hadn't twisted it to the end... feel quite stupid right about now tongue.gif

And thanks to you all for the good replies.

I think that's happened at least once to everyone who has owned the Ultrasone Pro models.

C'mon, the Pro 2900s aren't that bad really.

Yes, even with pro reviewer,lol

However with Ultrasone, there are no plugs to locke (bayonet), like HD5x8 or shure..., but to screw plugs.

No worries. I've committed bigger gaffes than that.

Enjoy the HFI-2400! I'm a big Ultrasone fan, and I like these alot. A little dark seeming at first, but that faded with a little use.

Dark? really?

I find the HFi2400 a very bright headphone, yes on the warm side, but nothing dark imo.

Maybe he was coming from the Pro 750 or one of the truly bright Ultrasones...

No, you're right, thanks for the correction, warm is the better word. Dark overstates it. And I was comparing them to the other Ultrasones I own and have owned (listed in my profile). But most importantly, as I tried to say, my original perception faded quickly, although I would still have to call them warmer than all the Ultrasones I have heard.
