I just noticed, why isn't the LCD2 thread no more on Hi.End ?

After 1-2h+ audition sessions my LCD-3 develops pretty noticeable earache in my left ear. Seems like a result of mechanical pressure to the ear by the pads, not the sound pressure, because I usually listen at pretty low volume(around 70dba)

If you have a wide head, bend the headband out a bit. It works for me and now they are fine. (Awesome headphones, especially after break in.)

I will just have to rent the HD800 to listen for myself and compare to my LCD2.2s.
I am really reluctant to buy the 3s if they cost twice as much and they are not twice as good.
I would rather get the HD800 or else save for the Stax 007 and suitable amp/dac. I just have to find out how those HD800s sound. I think Audeze is sticking it to us with that pricing which should be competitive with the Sennheiser offering IMHO.

I don't know if you'll love the HD800 that much with the schiit stack; but you may prefer it anyways if comparing to the LCD2

I never really understood this reasoning.  How can anyone rationalize any headphone especially flagships as they are not hundreds of times better than stock iphone/ipod ear buds.  Audeze prices their headphones based on supply and demand, as does every successful company.  The relative importance of those last few inches of audio fidelity and your cash are all that matter.  Also I think most people would agree that the LCD3 is at the very least, competitive w/ all the other flagships.

That being said, I would encourage you to definitely try the HD800.  It and the stax offerings are probably the only headphone I personally would consider over the LCD3.

Most likely will try the HD800 and also wait for the new Silver Widow. If that does what many have indicated it will do then I will be happy with the cans I have now but start saving for the Stax system. If the HD800 auditions nicely may pick up a pair of those to use, sell the 2.2s, and fully research a Stax system for eventual purchase. It would be great if the new cable enhanced the phones I have now though. Will see in about 14 weeks... That's a long time.

LCD3's sound stage is much more open, enough that it made me sell my HD800.  The sound stage was not as wide or deep as the HD800, but it came close enough for me to sell it.  With regard to soundstage, if the LCD2r2 was a 1 and the HD800 was a 10, I'd make the LCD3 a 6 or 7.

Seriously, I enjoy my LCD-3s and they are a lot, but neutral they are not. Not at all.

Let me fix this for you:  HD800 are neutral. So are HE-6. So far you've got two of them. The rest in your list are not neutral, as follows: LCD-3s - warm, LCD-2s warmer, T1 - bright, SR-007 MK2 - warm tinted.

By your ears alone or are you bringing some objectivity to the discussion?

It comes down to an individual's perception subjectively. Obviously.

What exactly are you disputing?

Thanks for the clarification.

Clearly your correction of Rah.

Anything in particular? Or just in principle. :)

I don't understand the run-around. You read your own posts.

Direct response from Rah's statement:

"IMO the LCD3 is the closest to neutral headphone I have heard, treble is no longer rolled off.  If I had to rank headphones in terms of which was most neutral, LCD3>T1>HE6=Sr007mk2>HD800>edition 8>LCD2"

I simply asked is your disagreement in some form of objectivity or your subjective findings. Since Rah was soo wrong.

To my ears, the HE6 is dead on neutral, while the HD800 is tilted up.

I very much disagree with the original statement in terms of neutrality ranking, which is what I have responded to. I was just asking what is not clear so to know on which areas to expand. Obviously there must be some disconnect to what I've said and your opinion, but if you are not stating it, there's nothing I can expand.

That was all my response was specific towards, Your discredit of Rah's finding's with your own.
