Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread - Page 40

This is the appreciation thread.  Did you mean to post in the regular LCD-3 thread?

Woops. Forgot we have LCD 3 THREAD and WE LIKE THE LCD 3 thread.

Don't mind me. Good thing it was the last post on the page.

I know that there's some people that enjoy that combo, but it was one of my least favorite at the Austin meet. The HD800 from the Leben absolutely slaughtered the LCD 3 in every way. Even bass...

I was surprised.

Yeah, I'd look at the Leben as the reason. Not the greatest amp for the LCD-3s. Sorry, it may excel as a speaker amp, but I wasn't impressed with it as a headphone amplifier. I can see why a warm and somewhat thick amp can sound "musical" with the HD800s, but not a great match for the LCD-2/3s. YMMV of course.

Again, to confirm, I've only heard the Leben with headphones and never in a speaker setup.

Oh I've no doubt it's partially the Leben, but even on better amps they were fairly underwhelming. I was hoping I'd like it as Skylab does, but definitely not.

The biggest thing I was a bit let down by was the comfort. I wanted them to be so much better (and the pads were impressive), but the headband still provided poor weight distribution and the clamp was tighter than I remember my LCD 2.2 being.

Can't contribute this completely to the Leben as I was extremely impressed by it's headphone out with the HD800.

While the comfort is somewhat improved over the LCD-2s, I just think that orthos are gonna be heavy and limited that way. Nothing is as comfortable as the HD800s IMO.

everyone's head is going to be shaped differently. i honestly didn't find them at all comfortable at first, but i'm getting used to them. the thing i love most about the sound is how heavy it is, and how you can feel the weight of the stage while you listen. the trade-off being that they're physically a burden on the head. but realistically i think we all knew that before we got into it..

Uncle jesse - you are using the enhanced digital ouput of the sbt to feed the gungnir? Or are you running coax or toslink to gungnir?
I recently downloaded the EDO app for my SBT, and have it now being run async thru the audiophilleo. Big time improvement.
If you have not tried it, you are in for one heck of a treat...

I find them extremely comfortable and snug now. :| No clamping, no problems with weight distribution.

Isn't the Leben a relaxed amp? And what was the source?

I expected the heaviness and the sound. I was not surprised at the first and I am completely still blown away by how good they sound.

I am listening to a Indian, Miles Davis, new age stye of music right now, and I swear I FEEL the bass reverberating against my ears.

My vinyl rig was running through the Leben.

Though I also heard it on a few other rigs with all kinds of sources and amps.

EDIT: Heard them before, just mainly commenting again after the recent listen.

Ah, I guess the 3s aren't for your tastes. Happens, although the 3 definitely isn't a $1000 improvement. I heard the LCD3 on many different occasions, but it wasn't until I actually had it with me in my room for a good long listen before I noticed how much better it was over the LCD2.

How are the Gungnir & Mjolnir working for you? Are they keepers or you feel an upgrade will be coming soon? I know many enjoy them but some don't like the three together.

It's too early for sonic impressions, but they are pretty well performing for the price. I honestly don't feel the need to spend more money beyond this, but that's just me. I don't have very deep pockets so I'm content as it is right now.

Thank you. The idea of upgrading to an LCD-3 system is becoming greater everyday. I question the need to improve as I love what I have but comments like yours are making my mind think. biggrin.gif

Very nice setup must sound fantastic, thank you. This coming week I will be getting a RWA Bellina HPA Renaissance edition with the DAC upgrade and balanced output.  I think for all in one this is going to be the best there is. If it does not knock my socks off, then I will look for component gears similar if not the same as yours.

Alrighty then, this is after two hours. My music has never sounded better. The sound is more: deeper, clearer, separated, with more bass punch and more bass notes heard. Vocals are sweet, the harmonizing of multiple voices singing is stronger, with longer decay.

Coming tomorrow are Whiplash hybrid V3 balanced cables. I am traveling and may not get to listen with them till next week. :(

And if the cables are not enough, I will be returning with a Mullard CV2492.

Wow......better equipment = better sound P E R I O D

LOL Like you all did not know that.
