Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread - Page 233

Has anyone done modifications to the LCD3's? Or is there a thread on it somewhere?

I find the LCD3's to bright (Never found a headphone yet that I like on treble, LCD3 is the closest) and wonder is anyone has inserted foam into the earcups to tame treble?

Interesting post for your 666th post ;)

Anyhow, you'd have to be losing all of the detail at the upper side of  the spectrum (And there's plenty of detail there)... try to do some equalizing + check your other upstream equipment for faulty gear.

Because of Extra Power + Speaker options.

For the same reason you'd go for a power amp now if you were to use an HE-6 (I still don't understand it).

666th. Ha Devil post you rekon. Very funny.

It is not my equipment. I have listen on other peoples rigs and mine sounds similar. It is just my taste.

I realize I will loose detail. I don't look for or miss treble detail.

Yes EQ is something I'm investigating. I have done lots of tube rolling and I have got very close but not quite there.

Ha - gotcha...

I only heard the WA22 and never the WA5.  At the time the WA22 was tube out to match the HD800s and did not sound all that good with the LCD-3C.

Paddy, you just going to have to have a few sets of tubes that work best with each headphone.

RUMAY408 - I give the mids to the 3Fs as well like the others.  The 3Fs mids are just more sexy (for lack of a better word).  The HD800s mids are more linear, thank goodness they're not recessed - not the me anyway.

Thanks for the recommendation the GS-X should be at the Music City meet along with the WA7, I really need to audition multiple amps.  Unfortunately I live in an audio wasteland.

Moon Audio is about 4 hours away in Charlotte so that may be my best option.

This was close, maybe related to the HP amp (Meier Classic) which manages 110 ohms better than an efficient 600?  Regardless, I always feel that I am not getting the most out of the higher end HP's.

I find the Taurus has no flavor of its own (as a good thing). It just cleans up and passes through whatever the DAC is putting out.

I just looked at your "inventory".  Why did you get rid of your GS-X mk2?

Well at that time the GS-X mk2 was the best amp I had.  It beat out amps like:  4 channel B22, Bryston BHA-1, EF-6, Burson 160D and a few others.  Then I went to an audio shop here in Cincinnati with my HE-6 in hand.  I tried it on a number of high end speaker amps and yes - they sound better than I had ever heard.  However, I could not afford any of those high end amps.

Then a head-fi buddy (SoupRKnowa) said I had to hear this amp with the HE-6 - at the time it was the First Watt F1.  Needless to say I bought it from him.  Sent it to Nelson Pass so he could upgrade it to the First Watt F1J.  By the time it got back I cut down my headphones to 1 - the HE-6.  So it became a head to head battle between the F1J and the GS-X mk2 with the HE-6s

Well, that's when I sold the GS-X mk2.  Because the F1J was that much better than the GS-X mk (with the HE-6).  The GS-X mk2 is a really good amp,I wouldn't mind owning one again.

Wow, you're running Oppo+Woo to LCD-3C and find it too bright?

I have 3f, but listened to 3c many time and love the smooth yummy sounds. Sometimes I feel like buying the 3c just to keep and hug at night :)

Any thoughts on the Cavalli Liquid Fire and the LCD3F?

Yip. I probably would the king of dark. redface.gif
Well I did a experiment yesterday and got a EQ App working on my iPod. As it ended out I just needed the smallest tiniest bit of treble roll off. I'm now a very happy headphone guy. Everything is sonically sounding perfect.

Yes I do. They are fantastic. I can go for a 8 hour listening session and have no sweat build up. I couldn't do that with leather.

I had similar impressions with my LCD 3F. In the end it was my Auralic Vega DAC that turned out to be the reason why I thought them sounding to bright sometimes. I bought a TotalDac D1 dual and a TotalDac D1 server and it sounds even more detailed but nothing bright att all. The TotalDac maybe is out of your budget but it is worth it to do a research if there is another DAC and server which will change the characteristics of the sound. I don't think that you can change the sound to the lean side just with tube rolling, cables or a different amp without losing detailed if the DAC is not right.

I've been playing with a EQ App loaded on my iPod this weekend. Been getting impressive results. I have clocked up 9 hours today and everything sounds warm and lively. Not once I have thought the treble is harsh either. So I might have nailed it. wink.gif EQ to the rescue.
