Does anybody know if the LCD-3 has real zebra wood (the one that's endangered)?

Or, is it some zebrano-like sustainable hard-wood?

Not even Prada uses zebrano anymore:

The week before is the New York Audio Show in Manhattan. Woo audio is scheduled to be there and I bet dollars to donuts they will have a LCD3 to demo with their new WA7 Fireflies. Hope that helps.

There is no reason to use wood from endangered forests. Bamboo (which is sustainable) is harder and mechanically more resistant (contains industrial resin). It will not crack.

Too bad.

Speaking of wood, here is a January 2013 pair of LCD-3 with probably the nicest wood i've seen on a pair so far

Of sure make me polish mine now.
They look very nice. Just a hint of red in the lacquer? Mine look more like the floor you have them on. The same nice grain however.

loving the LCD-3 right about now...

listening to Fat Bottomed Girls.

i mean, who doesn't like that song, right?   wink.gif

 

my only beef with the LCD-2 and 3 is that for some reason the lambskin ear pads attract tiny bits of skin and oil, and those gradually get trapped in the tiny creases of the ear pad.

i use Murphy's Oil Soap and a soft cloth, and clean them up every couple weeks...  

i don't know if it's my imagination, but they seem to need cleaning more often and more often...

 

and, no, please don't mention the vegan pads.  those things are hideous.   biggrin.gif

 

but, to finish on a bright note, my current rig feels like "game over" for me.  for headphones audio at least.

 

jriver/jplay --> vaunix usb hub --> Silnote Audio silver USB cable --> Audiophilleo2 with PurePower --> WireWorld Gold Starlight 6 digital cable --> Human Audio Muto DAC --> Wireworld Gold Eclipse 6 RCA cables --> Apex Peak/Volcano (Sylvania 6SN7GTB currently) --> headphones (HD800, LCD-3, HE-500, etc.)

 

i list every component because i have come to feel very strongly that every single component is of at least some importance.

to achieve the kind of 3D holographic sound that is smooth, effortless yet dynamic and lifelike...

it's just like "wow'.

 

i described it to a friend as "driving a stolen lamborghini with Scarlett Johansen in the passenger seat, and cops on your tail."

it's a ride...
