Amp for HM5?

I just ordered a Brainwavz HM5 headphones.. And while I like all types of music, I will be listening to a lot of rap music.. And while, I am not a bass head, love bass.. So would u guys think I need an amp? Also, if I get one, it would be the Fiio E6 amp that they have for 24 bucks on mp4 nation that is on the same page as the HM5 because I need something cheap and good..

The HM5 don't need an amp to sound good. There is some benefit to using an amp, but as far as I can tell it isn't huge. The E6 does have that bass boost functionality which may come in handy if you don't already have something like that. What are you listening from? Portable player? Computer? In any case, if it were me, I'd just listen to the headphones first. If you're not satisfied with the bass they already offer, then start considering the Fiio.

Good advice.

OP - the HM5 are ridiculously easy to drive.  I compared them straight from iPhone4 and then from iP4 with the E11.  There is very little (if any) difference to my ears.  Save yourself some bulk in your portable set-up and forgo the amp unless you really need it.

keep in mind these are supposed to be neutral headphones.

if these are your first good pair of phones and you're not satisfied with the bass. go for the fiio.

for me, the bass boost colors the sound too much but you will most likely be satisfied if these are your "first" unless you're doing careful listening.

Read my post 2 above yours.  No - they don't need an amp.

If you're using a computer as the source, a dac could make a decent difference though.
