Original owner. This unit is functionally perfect and cosmetically near perfect - one minor scratch on the top left edge toward the back. I just retested the unit and its settings with a CD. The unit includes the original box, case and AC adapter. The rechargeable battery no longer holds a charge, but replacements can still be purchased online.
The D-555 was one of the flagship models in the Discman range, released in 1990. I bought this one in early 1992. It featured one of the first uses of DSP in a portable audio device, giving it digital EQ, Bass Boost and Surround Sound emulation capabilities. The D-555 also featured dual top / front backlit displays (backlit with external power only) and a digital audio output (also only active on external power), as well as an analog line output. As of 2009, it is one of the most sought-after Discmen by collectors.
The price includes the Discman RM-DM2 remote control unit, CPM-203P mount plate and CPM-100A mount plate arm. All of them are in perfect working order. A D-555 recently sold on eBay for $450 by itself.
