Is Etymotic mc5 the best isolating IEM with some bass unser 100€?

Hello,

I'm looking for a good pair of IEM with excellent isolation under 100€. Now, I had a pair of Philips 9850 but I didn't like their sound, no basses at all and close soundstage (IMHO) and a Hippo VB that I love but the isolation is quite poor. I found that the mc5 have dynamic drivers, so the would have "some" basses, and offer the famouse etymotic isolation, but I would like to know your opinion...could be the right choice?

They would have excellent isolation. Another option with close to the same amount of isolation is the Shure SE215. It would have a bit more bass and a warmer signature though.

The HSA Crystal, SE215, FXC51, JVC XX1, Sony EX310 and Turbine provide great isolation, dynamic bass and rich soundquality.

If you have a Best Buy, you may try to see if they have the HF3s for $79 on clearance.  A your mileage may vary but I can confirm that they still exist in some locations as of 1/1/2012.

Well, knowing that they just released the EtyKids, I don't think we'll see much soon :p

True enough, it could just as likely be two retailers recognizing they have no ability to sell something specialized like Etymotic especially since Etymotic relies on actual product knowledge and sales expertise versus mass advertising and marketing campaigns.
