Online stores feedback forum?

Does anybody think having a sub-forum for rating online stores in the For Sale forum would be a good idea (kinda like the Buyer/Seller feedback sub-forum, but for online stores)? It'd be nice to be able to see comments from people that indicate if buying from a particular store is likely to be a good experience or not. The main focus would be on audio online shops, but wouldn't have to be exclusive.

Sounds a pretty good idea to me

BUT... Rather than just posting about shop X and then three months later someone does another shop X thread... it would have to have someone who could sit on top of it (don't want thousands of threads to have to read through)

And, i'll let you into a little secret... so far as I am aware the "Rating" system that was piloted when Head-Fi first opened is still available... that'd be cool, so you could see at a glance whether people thought the place was good or not (although... the bit i DON'T know is, if that feature can be limited to posters only...)

Not quite sure what you mean by "sit on top of it". You mean, if somebody posted about a site that already had a thread, a mod would merge the two or something?

Besides, I would hope people would just use the search function if the sub-forum actually got that big, but maybe I'm expecting too much there...

As for the ratings system, it's OK, but if you give a negative rating, it doesn't really tell you what aspect (prices, customer support, etc...) was bad, so I wouldn't be concerned about that. I'd be more interested in reading the specific comments.

Sorry DH... You're correct... it'd need a moderator there, just to keep things nice and tidy

As to the ratings system, you're more than likely right in what you say, which is why I suggested (if it were possible) that posters ONLY had the chance to rate the store

That way, if you saw a fantastic deal, looked in your forum and saw your store had 5 stars.. wahoo.. buy away, but if it didn't.. time to read why not?!?

As I say, they are only quick ideas, and seeing that you had the principle of the idea, i really can't see any major problem (although i would presume blatant advertising would be way off the menu... but that goes without saying)

Hmm, good points. Yeah, the voting only by members is a good idea, though the difficulty of the task is the question. If it was going to take some effort, I'd rather not have it used at all.

Actually, I just thought of a possible problem that could also affect the Buyer/Seller Feedback sub-forum. The thread starter shouldn't be allowed to put the little message icons, like thumbs up, for the initial post. Reason being, if the first person has a good experience, but five more people have bad experiences, then that thumbs up icon is going to look odd, w/ so many negative comments. It's not as much of a problem w/ the Buyer/Seller feedback forum, since most people here are pretty good about such dealings, but maybe not so w/ most online stores.

And as you said, advertising should not be allowed. Only people that have had a direct transaction w/ the company in question should post.

It would require a mod to periodically merge threads. I do this regularly in the Buyer/Seller Feedback forum -- seems most people can't be bothered to check to see if there is another thread already there for a person (and it also doesn't help that the default view is 30 days, so only recent threads show up )
