looking for Super low noise floor amp

I m in the market for an amp that will be powering some HD 650s and some Audze LCD-2.

Right now I'm using a maverick audio D1 for my DAC amp combo, and one thing that I have come to understand is that I HATE white noise.  The one thing that I hate about my D1 is after about  the half way position on the volume knob I can easily make out some sort of white noise or a hiss.

I love to listen to rock music loud (make your ears bleed loud) so I want an amp that has plenty of power but also is completely silent aka I don't ever want to hear any white noise what so ever.  Also I would love for it to be extremely detailed but that is not a necessity.

Dose an amp like that even exist?  And if so I would love to do it on the cheap. I would like to keep the it below $300 but I could be convinced to save up my money and spend up to say $600 if I must.  Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks again.

Bump....any suggestions?

The Objective2.  Its dead quiet and got plenty of power for most all 'phones on the market.  Way quieter than my D1.

What headphones do you have?

There are people selling assembled versions.  The JDS labs one doesn't have an AC adapter for some reason but links to where you can get one.

Hmm I m gonna be honest I next to nothing about DIY amps I love this $149 price, but at the same time that scares me.  How would an amp like this compare to say a burson audio or schiit amp?

My problem is I really am  going into this blind I wont be able to listen to any thing untill carolina Canfestt III.  I m not sure that amp will be there.

If you go by the measurements (as I tend to do) its cleaner and more transparent than Schiit's products (they have a few numbers on their site) and the Burson HA-160D.  There are some rather extensive measurements of the Objective2 on the designer's site which I'm not allowed to link to because he's been banned from Head-Hi but the JDS Labs page has a link to it.

You can read a few of his articles and get a feel for his design philosophy and see what you think.  I enjoy mine quite a bit.  Its dead silent with my very sensitive SE530s but it can also turn my modded T50RPs (probably just a few dB more efficient than your LCD-2s) into small speakers if I crank it.

If you don't mind waiting a bit he's also working on a desktop version called the ODA (Objective Desktop Amp) which will probably be sold commercially too.  Its main advantage is just going to be convenience with a less cramped panel and room for RCA and 1/4" headphone jacks plus an optional USB DAC module since the Objective2 already sound great and has enough power for all but a few headphones already.

What do you know about thge EHP-1? it looks like its got a bit more power too it. 2 watts per channel that's crazzy high.

I don't know anything about that one.  All I really know about Epiphany is that they're one of the two places selling completed Objective2s.

The wire  and LPA-2 ....these have the lowest noise floor ...from what I know.

the 650 and the LCD-2 are fairly low V sensitivity headphones and fairly similar in V sensitivity - but the LCD-2 needs ~6x more current than than the Senn - enough that even the O2 can't really drive it to "rock out" loud levels

this means they should give about the same noise from the same amp and a lot less noise than many higher V sensitivity headphone would

if you hear noise with the amp volume control all the way down then it is the amp's noise

if you have to turn it up to hear the noise it is a source problem - it is easy to hear the tape noise on many classic rock analog tape mastered recordings (when there is enough silence in the recording)

PC soundcard chipsets and some poorer DAP or cheap DACs may have too high electrical noise if you can establish that it isn't in the recording

you may want to look over this article

I knew about The Wire but is anyone selling completed units?  The LPA-2 looks interesting.  Do you have to contact them direct to order or do they have distributors?

The wire looks cool but I can't buy it.... is there maybe a more consumer friendly amp that's has lots of power and super low noise floor?   You guys seem really good at reading specs any suggestions?  I honestly have no clue when it comes to understanding specs and which ones matter and which ones are marketing BS.

Very good read lol.   Nah I don't always listen at face melting volumes.   But I do use my headphones to game and watch movies and I really want an amp that can do it all and have power left over.

I hope I don't damage my hearing too much for good audio. L3000.gif
