Hey all

Another forum noob here.  I've been researching a set of cans for a new bedroom system I've recently put together.  This forum is been a great research tool.

Based on what I've read here I'm strongly considering a set of Senn HD 598's.  I'll be using them with an NAD amp and CDP.  Jazz, blues, classical, and some rock.

Comments and/or advice is welcome but I'm mainly just checking in to say hey.  And thanks for a good forum.

are you living with anybody or any roomates? if you are, then make sure that the sound leakage wont disturb them while you are using your headphone, otherwise get a closed headphone instead..

that setup good by the way

cheers,

Leakage won't be an issue since these will only be used in my "man cave".  The wife will be happy I'm not cranking up the speakers.

I'd recommend the Beyer DT880 if you can get your hands on them and don't mind a slightly higher price. Great bright open cans.

HD598 is great for classical music and jazz...

I'm going to commit some minor heresy here and say that the 598 is good but so are the higher end Beyers. In my opinion it's also a matter of personal taste and even fit.

Yep, I'm still looking at the Beyers.  In fact, the DT880 (600 ohm) is still on my short list.  It's actually a choice between it or the Senn HD598.  Without the opportunity to audition one (on this system) it may come down to the flip of a coin.
