Need help finding a portable amp for VSonic GR07 and SoundMAGIC PL50

I have never owned or used an amp before,so this would be my first portable amp I'm buying.

My source would be the iPod Touch 4th Gen.

Almost all my songs are mp3 320kbps with some being 256kbps.

IEMS : VSonic GR07 and SoundMAGIC PL50

I also use a Sennheiser HD419 ( I know it's not audiophile stuff..but more info might help. xD )

I have read good things about the FiiO E6 and E11,would you guys recommend that?

I'm looking for an amp with a wide soundstage and improves overall sound quality and separation.

How about the E7 or the new E17? Is the SoundMAGIC A10 any decent?

Oh and as for budget, something preferably below $100, though I may explore other options beyond that price point.

Oh,and can someone tell me in the simplest way possible what is the difference between a DAC and an amp and the effects each of them have respectively?

What is a line out, and what does it do?

( I'm only 16 and I'm pretty new to this world of audio. :P )

Thanks in advance! :D

I would recommend the E6 but it sounds like you are expanding soon.

Do you need it just for portable use? or also for desktop? or both? or would you like Both, with teh ability for use on comptuer?

if you just need a portable amp and that is it. The  E11 ($65) it packs 300mW @32 Ohms into that body with a good bass punch and soundstage.

The E17 is for if you want EVERYTHING. you can plug it into the USB of your computer for use as a sound card. if your comptuer has optical or coaxil. even better. 24/192! this will give you really good comptuer sound. you getting up to go to school or somewhere? grab the E17, strap it to your portable music player and head off. you can also plug into xbox 360 and ps3 through toslink. the E17 is a truly good amp for the price

I use it mainly for portable use,but now that you have said many great things about the E17 ( heard it's released in Feb though. ), I think I might consider getting it..as I also use the computer pretty often.

Btw how do I check if my computer is optical or coaxial??

And have you tried the E17 or the E6/E11? How do they sound?

you look on ur computer's plugs. if you have a laptop. you don't have optical or coaxil usually.

this picture has both the plugs teh E17 supports. if your computer doesn't have them then no biggy. the E17 also HAS USB!!! SO MANY FEATURES! this will give you a good external sound card(don't troll me for this, major audiophiles may laugh at me for calling it this but i don't know what else to say) for your computer. so your at home now enjoying the new crisp external sound card :) and ....it's time for school. you unplug the usb. grab your E17. hook it onto your ipod. and ur good to go :) it's now portable :)

The E17 has better sound than E6, E11, E10, and E7.

the GR07 and the pl50s are very easy to drive.

unless your gonna get an amp over 60 bucks don't bother, cause it will just be a volume booster.

I had the E6 and L9 with my iPhone 4 and it didn't sound as good as the iPhone headphones jack.

I know the GR07's are easy to drive, but from many reviews.i have heaerd that the GR07's benefit from many amps. plus i was going off the impression that the OP was going to update tio fuull size ones one day

oo well  a lot of top reviews use their Gr07's as the IEM's to test all these new amps and they seem to always pin point something new :/ I was just saying that the E17 allows for great upgradability

I have something on the back called SPDIF Out,which looks like the optical thingy, and I have various 3.5mm connections...don't know if that is coaxial, I have out , in ,side ,rear , and c/sub.

What does coaxial and optical mean and do anyway? o.o

what you have "should" be it

they send a digital stream to your devices. usually original PCM data straight to the DAC so there's nothing in between.

Can you explain it in layman terms? I'm really clueless to all this DAC, LOD, PCM kinda stuff.. xD

The DAC changes the digital files on your computer or ipod to an analog one. This makes it so that ur headphones can play them. during this process, extra sound, hiss, distortion(bad stuff) can be added. that's why it's good to have a good DAC. the DAC can also influence how the music sounds. warm, metalic, etc

Line Out Dock are mianly for Apple Devices(some zunes now have them, but let's not get into that)- what this is that the ipods have a pretty good DAC inside. A cirrus Logic. But the amp inside is weak and kinda muddies up the signal(bad stuff) then wehn the audio passes through the amp and reaches the jack on the ipod(this is only on ipod/iphone/ipad, every device is differnt)the jack further muddies it up. the LOD bypasses the ipods internal amp AND the jack. so audiophiles won't need to amp the already bad signal by plugging an external amp into the jack.

PCM is the digital from of the audio in ur comptuer. this is largely unimportant for most people...and is a very very advanced subject evenn i have a hard time explaining. not too important here

so now. Normally you can just plug a USB from the E17 into your cmputer. this will will tell ur computer to bypass ur internal audio equipment and send it through USB to decode straight on the device itself. the E17 supports up to 24bit 96KHz through this function.

Going through optical or coaxil on the E17 is the same. it takes this untouched digital data straight from your comptuer, bypasses everything and sends it out through a very high performance jack(coaxil and optical) the E17 when using coaxil or optical can do up to 24Bit 192KHz. important for noobies? no. but for the serious audiophile. this is amazing stuff. 192KHz on an $150 device that is also portable?

any other questions?

So which LOD would you recommend then? the L1,L2,L3 or L9? and what difference do each of them have? which is the best?

Btw I'm using the G1. SNIPER 2 Gaming Motherboard by GIGABYTE, and it has an on board sound card,if that's what its called..

It's called "Onboard Creative Soundblaster- X-Fi Digital Audio Processor (20K2) with X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity and EAX AHD 5.0 Technologies."

Does it have 24 bit 192khz? and pls tell me what 24 bit 192khz does, and how to enable it. xD

And would it this sound card be better than the E17 or?

the L3 or L9 depending on the Amp or DAC you want. the differnce from the L3 and L9 is the cable. the L9 and L3 uses HPC 22W wire. the rest are low quality ones. the L9 is most commonly purchased as most like the L shape

I also have a gaming comptuer and gaming class motherboard(yours is enthusiast class) those onboard sound chips after much time on head fi , mean nothing. they are just numbers. funny right, when you learn how they just needed teh numbers for the audio to look big.

Yours supports up the 384 KHz...that's all Bull though. it supports it but it won't sound better than a real DAC's. They just needed the numbers to look big. Mine supports up to 192KHz and has the same Bull and big numbers as yours did. It doesn't sound nearly as good as the Cirrus Logic on the iPod and Macintosh..not by a long shot

the E17 has the Wolfson WM8740, very high quality chip. can it be used for when you are playing BF3? Yes.....oh god yes! When you need to leave can you plug it out and use it portabily....yes.. can it be used with consoles? Yes, can u bring it to  a friends house and plug it in..yes :)

Do you need it? Unless you are planning to get full sized headphones soon. no, the E6 is capable of "driveing" these to maximum capabilites. but to get that sweet spot, those small tiny improvements that make the experience jsut soo much better, yes this is it.

Alright, then I'm most probably going to get the L9 when I purchase my portable amp.

HELL YEAH I PLAY BF3!!! :D

So what your saying is the E17 will have better SQ than my sound card?

I'm thinking of getting the HD 598s, that's if I manage to get my desired part-time job.. so I might be considering the E17. xD
