Headphones for movies, gaming, hip hop/rap, rock, reggae etc.

First of all, sorry about making a new thread, but after couple days of searching I need to make one to help me with the problem I have.

So I've been searching information from the forum and reading alot of different recommendations and still I have no idea what headphones to get.

The price is good to be under 200€ and are only for home use.
I don't have an amp so I will maybe buy that later, so recommendations needed.

I listen alot of different music so I don't want it only to be good at hip hop/rap.
Even If I listen alot of hiphop/rap, I don't want the headphones be too bassy, I need to hear the vocals, because that's one of the main things about rap.
And what I've read, many people recommend headphones with lots of bass, which I don't want too much.

I also watch alot of movies so the headphones should be good for that.

And finally, gaming.
I play mostly FPS-games, so I need to able to know where the enemy is coming from.

So what I have seen been recommend

Audio Technica M50 - Not so good for gaming and movies?

Ultrasone HFI-580 -  not so good at midrange?

Ultrasone HFI-780 -  vocals better than 580?, some people claiming these to be a piece of crap.

First you need to decide whether you can have open headphones. Open are generally better than closed, BUT theres no isolation and everyone around you will be able to hear them.

For your 3, the best is the 780. The 780 has more forward vocals then the 580, but less bass. (still plenty). The M50 has recessed mids. I think the HFI780 is a good choice for you, BUT if you can get open then get the Sennheiser HD598 for sure.

Well I don't really need isolation, since I will be using the headphones only at home.

And is it ok if it leaks sound? Everyone in the same room as you will hear. If that is ok, then definitely get the HD598. They are excellent headphones.

How about that amp, what should I get, and how much is it gonna cost me?

If you are thinking on the 598's no amp is needed, since they are easy to drive. Or you can buy a portable like the Fiio E7 with dac/amp...your choice.

1) M50 has a very small soudstage, not very good with movie/gaming.

2) HFi580 has a better midrange than M50.

3) Yes, mids are better from the HFi780 (more refined/detailled), better soudstage. Some people? who?deadhorse.gif

I was basically in the same position as you a couple weeks ago and ended up getting the 598's along with the Denon D2000's. While I prefer the 598's to the D2000's for FPS gaming (less bass, bigger soundstage) for music(mostly hip-hop, rap, rock)/movies/single player games I heavily favor the Denon's, so much that I am likely going to send the 598's back. The positioning to me isn't far behind the 598's for FPS (which I also play a lot of) and the soundstage is pretty impressive for a closed can. The downside is the bass, which sometimes hides the footsteps/gunfire/etc, but I personally can put up with it because they are amazing for all my other needs.

I'm far from an expert and don't consider myself an audiophile, but figured I'd add my 2 cents as I was in the same boat. I'd look into the Denon's.
