The AKG K270s are the classic, big huge studio headphones. There is little doubt if you see someone in these cans, they're tracking tasty licks on a new album. Despite their size, they do tend...

I'll keep this very short. They are very smooth sounding. Treble toned down so not so good for rock but have a magic about them that makes them better than mark 2. I use them with a '89/'90...

First, I should note that I auditioned these both straight out of the box, without any break-in time and then later after 53 hours of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite...

Amazing adventure. I have the HD650, and I would say T1 is the top-tier of it lol. Much easier to pair with any system than the picky HD800, give it a try.

the T1 and HD 650 don't have much in common besides their warmer sound signature, the LCD-2 is alot closer to the HD 650s

omg you're so right i've been forgetting to tell u about the lcd-2, so sorry lol.
umm well compared to the T1, way difference. bass is definitely more present and very textured. it goes down alot deeper, like way deeper!
its insane actually, you'll fall in love with the bass, its really good for rap and r&b too, the dark sound signature and nice bass really makes those genres sound really well as well as anything electronic. the mids are more forward and are very thick unlike the t1s thinner but more detailed mids. they're both just as smooth on the mids though. as for the highs, the LCD-2 has very well balanced highs that are just slightly laid back. they are not fatiguing and totally the opposite of the T1. the LCD-2 is alot better than the T1 in those aspects, however, the T1 has a more detailed sound than the LCD-2. the soundstage is good on both with the T1 having a bit of an advantage in the soundstage.
the T1 is better for rock and faster music while the LCD-2 is better for bassy music as well as badly recorded mainstream music. the LCD-2 is more forgiving and less revealing than the T1s of poorly recorded tracks (similar to the HD 650).
overall, the LCD-2 is dark and smooth. VERY similar to the hd 650s, but the mids are more forward and the highs aren't as rolled off. its a huge upgrade from the hd 650s. the bass is slightly less impactful than the hd 650 in the mid bass, but impact is stronger in the subbass for the lcd-2. also the bass on the lcd-2 is much more detailed and textured.
to give you an example of the LCD-2 ill compare them to the dt 990s.
the dt 990s bass is sloppy compared to the LCD-2. punch is about the same, but alot tighter on the LCD-2. the LCD-2 goes alot deeper than the dt 990s as well since the dt 990s have a noticeable roll off on the low end. the mids are way thicker and smoother than the Dt 990s which have slightly recessed mids sometimes. the mids are really different between these 2 headphones, the dt 990 has a brighter and more sparkly sound to it while the lcd-2 is dark and warm. the highs are definitely better on the dt 990 which has that nice sparkle on the high end without being too harsh. the lcd-2 is never fatiguing and is alot nicer with bright recordings.
obviously the LCD-2 are better than the dt 990s, but just so u get an idea of what they sound like.
finally, compared to the k701.
complete opposites, even more than the dt 990.
smaller soundstage, details about the same but slightly less on the lcd-2 since its darker sounding. the bass is heavier but refined and well integrated into the mids (the frequency graph shows a flat line all the way to 1khz with no roll off or spikes).
the mids are very nice and smooth like the hd 650s while being more active. compared to the k701s, you will instantly notice the added weight on the mids vs the lighter sounding k701.
as for the highs, not as bright as k701. but not as recessed as the hd 650s. i'd say kinda like the k701s on a warm sounding amp. smooth and never harsh. you get a sparkle when you need it, but its not emphasized or anything.
basically hd 650 sound with a better high end and improved bass. also, the lcd-2 tend to sound more balanced since they are very flat from 5 hz all the way to 1khz while the hd 650 sound alot more colored due to their bass boost, midbass hump, and quicker roll off.
the LCD-2 are also easier to drive than the T1 and the dt 990.
they pair really well with my WA6SE and require about as much juice as hd 650s. the WA6SE makes the LCD-2 get really loud at about 9 or 10. it doesn't take much really. gives the LCD-2 alot of energy and they always sound really well driven. My WA2 cannot drive them very well due to the low impedance.
the only bad thing about the lcd-2 is that they where a little heavy to me at first and if you have a bigger head, you might have to move the adjusters all the way to the top. however, they are extremely comfortable and the pads are really soft. the leather is of really good quality and the headphone overall is quite impressive. the only downside, the cable. when i get money again, i'm getting a better cable since the cable it comes with is kinda cheap feeling. its thin and somewhat short. they could have done a better job with the cable. the T1 has a way niceer cable than the LCD-2s stock cable.

hope that helps, i'll be able to go more in depth or offer other comparisons with other headphones via pm. but yeah if you want a headphone that can do all sorts of genres well and a total opposite of the k701, the lcd-2 is a great complement.
its completely different from the hd 800 and the pair is a great combination. if you liked the hd 650s but didn't buy them because of whatever reason, the LCD-2 will satisfy your needs

Never have the chance and pleasure to try on the LCD, but from you description I think it may not my favorite type. I love the highs, details and balance of Beyer - and interestingly, while many comment the HD650 has a slightly rolled off high, with proper system it can still present nicely.
Recommend ADA4637 for that if needed.
I am kind of curious how much you've spent on this accursed hobby already!?
