Help needed on how to remove glue around headphone driver on JVC 50mm headphones.

Hi, i have a pair of JVC Ha-m5x 50mm headphones and want to remove the drivers from the plastic inside the headphone cup. The drivers seem easy to pop out, however there is some strong black glue all the way around the driver, holding the driver in place on the cup grill. I tried scrapping it off, with a flat head screwdriver, it works, but not very well and it takes lots of effort, for little progress on removing the glue. Guys, have you got any tips, ideas, or tricks on how to remove the glue around the driver, using the easiest and safest way:)

Are you trying to save the drivers, the cup, or both?

Hi, well what i am trying to do is remove the driver from the plastic grill cup, so i can inspect them further, to see if there is hair stuck on it, or if the cone is torn, or damaged, because when i crank up the bass, all i hear is crackling, like there is something stuck in them. If the drivers are damaged, do you know were to get replacement ones that are 50mm in size?

53mm is a more common size, but I'd be surprised if JVC sells replacement drivers.  You won't find a really cheap pair of drivers that will just pop back into place.

My big warning is this: the diaphragm is generally glued in place between the driver and the baffle (the plate the driver sits on).  If you pull the driver out, there's a very good chance it will disconnect the diaphragm from its wiring, which is virtually impossible to undo.

If there is some sort of plastic cage on the front of the driver, there's a chance that the entire driver structure (magnet, diaphragm, protective cage) is a separate module.  In that case, popping it out might not destroy the driver.

Can you not get at the front of the driver without removing it from the baffle?  Generally, a hair should be visible, and will be on that side of the diaphragm, not behind the diaphragm (since it's sealed.)

In my experience, removing drivers from headphones is a relatively permanent thing to do.

Hi again, thanks for the advice. The headphone that i want to remove the drivers from have a plastic cage, like you said and yes it is possible to remove it, as the driver is totally seperate. So i want to remove the driver, but it has black glue around it, do you know a good method to remove it,so the driver can remove itself?
