I posted about looking for drivers over in the portable forums last week, but here's the situation, reiterated: a friend of mine recently bought fake Beats Solos from DealExtreme, and wants me to DIY mod some drivers in there that are bassy, but aren't crap. I immediately thought of the Monoprice 8323, but those have 50mm drivers, which definitely are not going to fit into Solo shells. After exploring modding it to an open can and putting Portapro drivers in, getting drivers from a broken CAL!, and looking into scoring a free HD201 to rip apart, I finally came back to Monoprice.
The can from Monoprice that looks promising is the 8325, a style headphone. It has 40mm drivers, and they may not be good ones. However, it's dirt-cheap, and if the drivers are half-decent and bassy I'll take them. Has anyone tried them and can confirm they're bassy and half-decent?
