Upgrade over AD700 (PC360 recommended?)

Thread Starter

Ill try to keep it short this time, I'm looking for an upgrade over my AD700 which I got the other day.

As far as the headset goes, I like it quite a bit (I came from a Logitech G35) but I have a few problems with it which is why I'm wanting opinions on upgrades.

Cons for the AD700 to me:

- Feels like it doesn't get loud enough, I don't want to always blow my ears out, but sometimes I want it to get bumped up a notch.

- Bass.  I WANT MORE!  :P  I'm not a bass head but I could really go for a good jump in base, this is one of the things I'm looking for mostly in another headset.

One thing I do like a lot about the AD700s that I want in my next headset is COMFORT!  These babies are fantastic and id like to have that carry over to the next headset.

Other than that, there's not much more I'm wanting.  I understand I could mess around with an equalizer, but I've only seen the one in iTunes and if I'm listening to something on youtube, that obviously doesn't help me at all.

So back to the PC360 from Sennheiser, would these be a good upgrade taking into account the things im looking for?

My budget is up to $300, but the less the better because who doesn't want to save money? :)

I would feel most comfortable spending between $100-250.

Thanks in advance!

Most people here are going to keep recommending the AD700 for gaming, that seems to be a common recommendation on head-fi. I personally didn't end up with them because of how they sat on my head. They felt massive to me and didn't get a good seal around my ear, but that's me. With the PC360 you'll get everything in an all in one package; built in mic, audio controls on the headset, etc. However you will end up paying a premium for this. If you're looking to get the best bang for your buck you can do a standard pair of hi-fi headphones and attach a mic. And since you mentioned the comfort of the AD700, keep in mind you'll be going to a more clamping headphone with the PC360, which may or may not be comfortable depending on your head size.

Now with the PC360 looking like they're on sale on amazon currently if you are looking for that total all in 1 package you may want to jump soon. Not sure how long they've been at the $220 price on amazon but they weren't there when I last looked. Just something to ask, have you considered adding a bass boost amp to your current setup instead of upgrading the headphones? With a good bass boosting amp you'll be able to retain the comfort of the AD700 but boost the bass and volume overall. You can get good starting amps around the $60-75 range with bass boost.

I assume you need a mic since your looking at PC360s and not something like HD598s.  If you get PC360s, I'd wait until they drop to  ~$180.

Brainwavz HM5 + Fiio E10 USB DAC Amp: http://mp4nation.net/catalog/brainwavz-hm5-studio-monitor-headphones-p-663.html

would be my recommendation.

A real step up in audio quality compared to the AD700 or PC-360, as well as having a decent amount of bass and good isolation.

Used DT990, these are great for gaming. Open backed, sound incredible. Price currently $100+shipping. All you'd need then is a mic to attach and boom, instant gaming headset.

I got my DT880 pro -250 ohm off ebay B-stock for $185, they work very good for games as well. You will need a headphone amp if you dont have one. same with the DT990 250ohms.

I know how you feel, I had AD700s my self as my first good headphones, I felt the same way about them. Other then their ear-pads making my head sweat. There very very little bass.
