There are doors narrower than 6 feet?

Ah, stereotypes. And because you're American, I supposed you must be living in New York, too?

Oh, wait....

Wait, I'm an American.  What's a New York?

Hi,

Will you recommend the 8A over the ES5?
Really like the sound sig if the ES5 and I'm reading that the 8A has a similar sound sig to the ES5 and does it better.
Therefore, now I am in a dilemma as to whether I should switch over to the 8A.

Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

As far as I've noticed, only 1 person has both the ES5 and the 8.A, and he might be sending his 8.A back for a refit. So there isn't really much to go on yet.

Yup.

Hi guys,

I'm currently considering between the Heir Audio 8A, Merlin and the ES5 at the moment. Price wise Merlin beats them all but the venting bugs me a little as isolation is one of the key factors in my consideration.

Tried the universal Merlin recently and fell in love with it instantly and I couldn't stop myself from playing more songs(not sure how close the sound sig of the custom will be from the universal).

I emailed Heir Audio too and wizard told me the 8A behaved similar to the Merlin only better but I'm just wondering how close both of them sounds since one uses dynamic and other uses balance drivers.

As for the ES5, not sure how it compares to the Merlin, so if anyone has any experience with the both of them, I hope you are able to share their similarities and differences so I can better decide.

FYI, I've only tried the Merlin since demo sets for the 8A and ES5 are not available to me.

Thank you.

The isolation of my 4.A is very good; but if you really want the very best, in that respect, consider a silicone CIEM.

If you read this post in another thread, you can get a bit of an idea about the 8.A/Merlin comparison. User kckc has both models (as do I) and think they complement each other well, each having different strengths. Read the first post of that thread to find my review, which covers the Merlin comparison as well.

The summary of 8.A being "similar to Merlin only better" is one way of putting it. I do find the 8.A superior overall. But it kind of depends on what you are looking for.

If isolation is a key concern, then a closed shell acrylic custom will do better than a vented one.

Sinocelt's suggestion of a silicon shell custom is a good one. The US based Sensaphonics and the UK based ACS are good compainies to look at.
