Quote:I've been listening out of my TTVJ Slim, but let me try out of my ipod. Well, the 8.A is actually very nice straight out of my 5.5 generation ipod. In fact, it's great--the treble shines with a Haydn string quartet, huh. Synergy is an interesting thing.
Of course, I'm sure with some monster amp any top-tier custom will scale, but it's a question of whether you need it. I'd say it's not necessary for commuting, but if you really want that last bit of perfection...that's true of all the customs I've heard.

You mentioned that genre like rock would be great on the 8.A. I'm coming from a pair of 6 drivers tf10 and was wondering whether it would be an improvement from them as I sometimes feel that they do not have enough of the punchy bass I'm looking for
I listen mainly to rock/alternative rock and vocals like adelitas way damone etc
Am going to make up my mind for a new ciem by this wk and the 8.A is actually on the top of my list. Any help would be appreciated thanks.post #20 of 1261/2/12 at 7:05amHey Kunlun mate, Excellent review!
I actually heard the sibilance and harshness in the treble from the JH16 with the stock cable without an amp. It was very present, but disappeared with the amp and the UP-OCC cable.
Are you using stock cables on all of them?
Seems like the sound signature carries on from the 3.A to the 8.A. Very interesting. Since I'm loving what I hear right now.

Oh, you will have absolutely no complaints about the bass on the 8.A! They are likely to be the most bass capable balanced armature driven customs, given the double dose of extra large CI drivers and the care which John has given into giving them superior control. I have no doubt you'll find a very nice improvement.Quote:Originally Posted by Saintkeat

Thanks. I am using stock cables all around for the review and comparisons. If you think your jh16 got better with the the amp and upgraded cable, just imagine how the 8.A will sound with them.

Nice review Kunlun (and I'm not going to ask what did you actually pay for those ...
)... LOLAnyway, nice review and I'm very tempted. But you have also re-sparked my interest in the Future Sonics custom... We'll see.

Hello, I have never gotten a CIEM before and was wondering how the process goes. Do you go to any audiologist to take the samples (or whatever its called)? And how much does that cost? Then you give those to the company, in this case heir audio, and they make it for you?- Kunlun

The audiologist takes impressions (often called earmolds) and those go to the custom company who make the ciems for you.
An audiologist visit can be $50-120 or so. Cheaper is definitely not better as it is absolutely vital to get the best possible impressions. It is so worth it to go to someone who has a lot of experience making ear impressions for musicians (not only for hearing aids). I paid more and when I had problems, I was well taken care of.
Here's my advice for going to an audiologist.

No, I've never had anyone do that. JH was kind enough to make me a spare set (a replica of the original) and ship it back to me in Europe all for 10 bucks tho, lol.

They usually keep them as a reference. A new custom often means new earmolds, unless you take the risk of sending your old set of customs to use (they will send those back, of course).Return HomeBack to Forum: Portable Headphones, Earphones and In-Ear Monitors- [REVIEW] Heir Audio 8.A: 8-Driver, 4-Way Crossover Custom Fit In-Ear Monitors
