i do all the time, during some tests if the teacher allows me. I find it easier to concentrate with music playing.

It depends on the subject for me. If it's something easy and tedious then music is fine to listen to. It slows down my ability to work, but it makes the time pass by faster. If it's a subject that is more conceptually difficult, music is a no-go.

A lot of my studies revolve around foreign languages, and I find it very hard to focus on foreign languages with music playing. Any other work I'll put music on, preferably something without vocals and that easily fades into the background, like classical. Jazz doesn't work all that well for me.
