Bought these on whim, for your basic train ride to work I don't mind. But its far from being the best I have own.

First, I should note that I auditioned these both straight out of the box, without any break-in time and then later after 53 hours of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite...

A very all-round headphone for me. Just the right one to take on the go or on holiday. Also as a DJ, nice noice isolation. Very durable so you don't have to wonder if it will break if you throw...

This quick review is done after a few hours of listening. I bought them from B&H for the decent sum of 150$. If you've done your research you'll find out that Ultrasone HPs are known for their...

I auditioned the SRH-1840 straight out of the box, and was unsatisfied with the sound, so I decided to give them a period of break-in. Recent scientific studies have shown definite differences...

Err, no. E10 is the latest but I guess that is not the issue here. The question is whether someone can confirm E10 can work with iPad as a DAC (as E10 doesn't take analog inpout) or else it is a safer choice getting the E11.

Actually the E11 came out earlier than the E10, so the E10 is actually newer.
OP - the E10 and E11 are totally different.
The E11 is amp only, and designed to be a portable unit.
E10 is combined amp and dac. It is transportable - but needs to be powered by USB to work. Not sure how the E10 would work with the iPad - should bypass onboard dac if you use the camera kit. Might pay to check with someone who has the E10/iPad combo first though.
If you are purchasing primarily for it's DAC - and in a transportable or desktop setting, you want the E10. If you need portable, you want either the E11 or maybe E17 (not released yet).
Why do you need an amp for your HM5? They are ridiculously easy to drive. Mine sound great straight out of my iPhone4. They're also good with the E11 - but FWIW, it's not really needed.
EDIT - ClieOS beat me to it :)

What?
The E10 is newer than the E11....and they are two different items anyways.
The E11 is a portable headphone amp....and that's it. It has a battery and will power your 'phones on-the-go. Looks like a nice unit.
The E10 is a USB DAC and it is also a headphone amp....but it has no battery....and its power supply comes from your source, through a mini-USB cable. I'm considering getting one for my desktop this spring, but I haven't made up my mind yet.
As to the OP's question of plugging it into his iPad, I think it might work if you had the camera connection kit.....but of course it would be sucking power from the iPad's battery.
Edit: ClieOS and Brooko beat me to it...lol.
