Looking for my next pair of headphones for Valhalla

I currently use AD900's with my valhalla, and I'm planning on leaving those at the office since they are driven well with my iPhone, and the difference isnt significant when driven by the valhalla.

I'm looking for a set of headphones to be solely left at home and used with the valhalla.

I love the comfort and sound of the AD900, and I want something similar to it, but better paired with the amp, and more of everything. and an even bigger sound stage if possible

Some suggestions I've seen are the AKG K702, and W5000 (Way out of budget)

Does the K702 really benefit that much from a recable?

My budget is $300, (Shure 1840, maybe? :) )

Beyer DT880, awesome with the Vahalla. I bought a used AKG K702 with a stock and a Kimber Cable that cost $150, if there was difference, it certainly wasn't a $150 worth or even a $75 worth. Depending on your musical preference, go with the AKG K702 or DT880.

How is the sound stage on the DT880? and comfort? Would you get the 250 or 600 ohm version?

Right now Amazon has a great price on the Beyerdynamic DT990 600 ohm.  These are great (I own them) and will sing lovely with an OTL tube amp (which the Valhalla is).  Great sound stage.

How is the Q701 when paired with the valhalla?

Right now I'm looking at the K702, Q701, DT880 600, and DT990(but i prefer a more neutral phone)

Slightly bass weak, highs are awesome, mids are good, fairly large sound stage, careful it's fairly bright, good for rock, jazz, classical, dissappears off your head once you get them on, get the 600 ohm version, the 250 ohm is prone to sibilance. I had the K702 as well with the Valhalla, not a great pair, really doesn't play to the phones strengths since the OTL tube amp like Valhalla are made to drive high impedance headphones.

The DT880s have great, precise imaging but I don't remember much about the soundstage. They are very comfortable, though. If you're going to get one, which I highly recommend you do, get the 600-ohm version, hands down.

Ok, looks like DT880 600 is the front runner right now. Are there high impedance phones with a self adjusting fit like the AKG or AT's?

Any interest in the Senhessier HD600/650s?  I know they pair nicely with the Valhalla.

I havent read much into the sennheisers. I saw that they are 300 ohm though.

I read on 6moons valhalla review that the most efficient power transfer occurs at 300 ohm, what does that mean exactly, and how does it translate into sq?

Don't believe the self-adjusting fit thing... all headphones are self-adjusting if you consider that when you wear them long enough, they form to the shape of your headphone. It's just what happens. And as far as the power transfer thing... it really doesn't translate into SQ, at least not SQ you will notice. Consider the phones first and the technical stuff later. HD650 is a fairly dark sound pair of cans though, if you're purely into jazz and classical, you might want to stay away.

+1 on the DT880s

I have them and they sound amazing with acoustic songs

I haven't had a chance to try the hd650 yet, but I enjoy EDM music with the dt880s. I feel like not having the bass in my face all the time lets me enjoy the rest of the music. (but once more, I haven't tried any other headphones, so I can't really compare much haha)

Do you like bassy music? What about Denon's and Grado's...

I'm not a fan of having too much bass, more balanced. as far as grados, i'm looking for circumaural. and which denons?

I would also vote for the dt880-600, but it is the only headphone in that price range I have heard. Either way, I was very impressed with it from my Lyr. It should be even better with your amp.
