Lookin for some new over the ear headphones, they are gonna be the first ones I will get. Help...

Hey whats up guys, completely new on this site. I'd like to start out by saying that I love music quality, and love listening to music through headphones that play the music, not music that plays the headphones. Anyways, for about a year now I've had the Bose IE2's, and I've liked them for what I've needed. They sound good for pretty much all music spectrums, and are pretty durable (have them in my pocket every day at school and still look brand new). This christmas, however, I wanted to start with some better, larger headphones. So after doing some reviews, I decided to go with the SOL Republic Tracks HD (130$). I actually really liked them, I thought they sounded great. The only problem was, they are on ear, not over ear. I have a kinda big head, and they start pinching the tops of my ears after about 5 minutes. The pain is pretty bad, and after listening for about an hour my ears are as red as a beet. Needless to say, they are going back soon. The thing I liked about them though, is that the bass was real punchy and kicked great, but I could listen to highs and still hear them with amazing clarity. I think that I'm going to need over-ear headphones for the comfort that i'm looking for, and recently started looking into the V-Moda Crossfade LP2's. They look really durable (like the sol republic tracks), the bass response looks almost the same (with good kick and punch), and from what I have read the quality is pretty good as well. Now I also want you guys to know, I listen to everything. From Dubstep, to electro house like Justice, to solo piano and mellow alternative. If you guys think these are not the right headphones for me, please leave some other recommendations. Thanks a lot fellas.

also would like to add I am very concerned about comfort. I want to be able to wear the headphones for a long time without ear fatigue.

Dependingon how much you care about clarity, the Sony XB series are very comfortable, and the 700 have a nice bassy sound.

If you want more clarity than that, the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro 80 might give you exactly what you're looking for.

It can be hard to find full-size headphones that are comfortable and suitable for portable use.

You dont have too, but it would make a difference coming out of an iPod.

What happen to the DT770's?

actually im now leaning towards them after investigating further. I think they'll be a great pair to start off with because the 80 ohms is just small enough to listen through my ipod without dire need of amping, which was the only thing i was worried about.

I really do like my DT770 Pro 80-Ohm headphones, the bass has a great thump.

If you not going to get a least a fairly decent headphone amplifier, do not buy the DT770 Pro 80-Ohms.

Audio Technica ATH-A900s would be better if you do not have a headphone amplifier (not really a bassy headphone)

Shures get good reviews

Denon AH-D1100, $107 at Electronics Expo, need to use the coupon code "BOUNTII".

Denons are bassy headphones.

senn 598 or m50 both dont need amps

I just got the M50 and while it sounds amazing the clamping pressure is a bit much.  Gets uncomfortable after about 2 minutes.

yeah after getting the sol republic i realized that my head is too big for headphones that clamp a lot. I wanted the most comfortable headphones I could get in the price range, and these looked like they were pretty comfortable.

sennheiser 598 is "the" most comfortable headphone(even more than my hd 650), but its open
