Stax SR 5 Imbalance because dust cover sticks on the stator?

Hello guys,

before I start, i want to excuse me for my bad english.

I'm from Germany and have never seriously learned english

3 Months ago, I buy a the Stax SR5 Gold Set and I noticed, that the right side is louder than the left side.

So I adjusted the balance with the windows mixer. I set it on 20% (instead of 50%)

With this setting I noticed a distortion on the left side, when bass is playing.

Now, that I do not care the price of the Stax, anymore, I've taken it apart.

After a bit of looking, I think I found the reason of the problem.

The Headphones consist of a diaphragm in the middle. Then comes a spacer on each side, then a stator on each side AND then a thin dust cover on each side.

On the side, where the cable are connected, the dust cover is stick to the stator.

(the picture is showing the dust cover and the stator of an other stax headphone)

How can i try to repair it?

Is this the reason of the balance problem?

Thanks in advance, I hope you will unterstand "my" english.

I wish I could help you, but my limited Stax experience doesn't extend to the SR-5.

However, there's a huge Stax thread full of people that may be able to assist you if you post there.
