Budget is $250

Can't decide if I should go with something like a lone Sennheiser PC360 or a cheaper headset with an amp (Thinking Astro MixAmp)

I noticed that the 360's are 50ohm's. does this mean they'd sound better withOUT an amp than the ...say... 350's?

Thanks in advance.

I'm assuming this is for gaming?

Xbox?, PS3?, PC?, MAC?, etc.

The Senn PC360s should sound better then the Senn PC350

You can get the Sennheiser HD-558 for about $70 cheaper then the PC360, go to the Bountii website.

Then buy a separate mic for $12-$20.

Thanks for the reply. I'm assuming the 558's are essentially the same as the PC360's minus the microphone?

And yes for gaming. PC. Would the 558's require an amp?

I think what the PC360 are is still up to debate.

The HD-558 should match or better the PC360.

As I'm assuming your using on-board sound (built into the motherboard)

Your not going to get the best out of any headphone, hook up to on-board sound.

The Senn HD-558 (50-Ohms) are easy to drive, does not have to have a dedicated headphone amplifier

But you could always add a low cost sound card, like the Asus Xonar DG (PCI) sound card.

Has a basic half-way decent headphone amplifier.

PC360's all the way since they are made for this, and have Sennheiser drivers as if they were HD555's or 558's just with a built in mic for gaming.
