yeh in regards to EQ i would say if you are listening to your music with the mind of a critic then dont bother EQ'ing, if you are listening out of enjoyment tho which most of us are most of the time then EQ frequencies down as this will not push the internal amp to clip and distort. your ear will get used to a certain sound after a while anyway, just take comfort from knowing that the IE8 will get the best from the MP3 player, its only when you venture into portable amps and so on that you really need to ever think of an upgrade in the future.
to put it another way the IE8 would not be wasted on you as you are using a good quality MP3 player, be sure to have your music ripped to at least 320kbps tho or preferably more otherwise any high end monitors are wasted really. people that use custom monitors with a bog standard MP3 player with music ripped at 128kbps could well be classed as have wasted their money :)
