Buying first headphones, need help!

HI All,

I'm looking to get some nice headphones ($150 max)to use for music at home and work but also playing FPS games. I have a TB DSS 7.1 decoder and will be using them in conjunction with this and will also be attaching a mic. Was thinking about going with the AntLion ModMic (not really comftorable with DIY soldering and such) but would welcome suggestions on this.

I was looking at the AD700s but I don't know how I feel about open headphones since I'll be at work and such...any suggestoin in the $100-150 range?

Thanks!!

hmmm. anyone? I'm such a noob and want to make an informed desicion...

The AD700's are definitely a no-go, as they are quite audible from across a room at normal volume. I'll let other more knowledgeable people suggest some closed phones smile.gif

Well this would take you right to your $150 budget but I recommend the Ultrasone HFi-780s. They are specifically tuned for gaming and movies, but they also sound just as good for music listening as well. They also have superb isolation. Clamping force can be a little tight if you have a larger head but that can be taken care of by stretching them over a box for a night.  I did a review on these a couple days ago.

What type of music do you listen to? Grado's and Ultrasone's are both very similar if you like hiphop, trance, bass music, etc.

I listen to rock, electonic, and a little classical. These headphone will be used much more for gaming however...I was starting to think about getting the sennheiser pc350 so I don't have to deal with getting a seperate mic...I think that I will actually not be taking these to work anymore so the AD700 are an option still...any advice on the pc350s vs. other headphones?

The PC350s are what you need if you need a mic. These are great headphones if you need a mic for gaming, etc.

If i remember corectly. Sennheiser charges a premium price for adding a mic and gaming looks onto their gaming headphones.

I recommend the Ultrasone HFI 780 also and with a $7 Zalman add on mic. S-Logic would be great for gaming.

Although the result is highly depended on what type of music you prefer, Sennheiser PC 350 can be a good one for both music and game purpose. By the way, the ASUS Xense Premium Gaming Audio Set (ASUS Xonar Xense One and Sennheiser PC 350 Xense) can be suggested.

The PC 350 is a great pair of headphones if your needing a gaming can and after listening to music.
