Hi everyone!

Im about to build my first headphone amplifier ( gonna order a kit off ebay) I love the look of the tube amps eg..http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Pre-amp-Tube-Amplifier-Kit-6N3-SRPP-Audio-DIY-New-/260723926434?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cb45b65a2#ht_2895wt_702

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-DIY-Pre-amp-Tube-Amplifier-Kit-6N3-Transformer-/110800706968?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19cc3c9d98#ht_6431wt_1050

and enjoy building stuff myself but I dont know much about electronics and i cant understand how im meant to power the dam thing! They all have rows of 4 connectors to put the power in but where do i get four power cords from? i have heaps of transformers and supplies like this 1 http://cdnsupport.gateway.com/s/SOUND/speakers/102033/power_adapter01.jpg laying around that are 12v and should work also I have a couple 4 and 5 volt but the amps say they need 6.3v is 5v close enough to run it?

All answers would be highly appreciated! I am so lost atm but really love building my own things.

Thanks, any other tips are welcome.

Cheers

And yes I have been searching everything trying to work it out but i just cant get these last few details down.

Seriously you should avoid both of those kits, they both use 6.3volts for the tube heaters but very high voltages for the tubes, and as a first project it could be a big mistake, I'd suggest you start with battery powered, you can advance as you learn more

would this http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MF1202&keywords=12v+transformer&form=KEYWORD be any good? if so what wires do i connect where?

No offence, but do not connect a mains transformer to anything if you have to ask.

If you must build a tube amp, perhaps a millet hybrid. It's all Extra Low Voltage so exteremely unlikely you'll kill yourself, still technically possible though. wink.gif

Even then I'd perhaps suggest something even smaller like a Cmoy as a first project to see if you enjoy it and give you some basic skills.

I see you posted a jaycar link, are you from Australia ?

Thanks for the info, ill stick away from those 1's then! Yeah I am from Syd, how about you?

also this one looks simpler - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/6N11-Tube-Buffer-Amp-Audio-preamp-diy-kit-new-/220785300042?pt=Vintage_Electronics_R2&hash=item3367d4524a#ht_2324wt_725 has a 12v in jack, does that look alright to you guys or no no?

Yeah im deff gonna build a cmoy but just for fun and to learn but i love the idea of these headphone amps + wana learn

That looks like a good start, use an AC wall wart from Jaycars and you'll not risk killing yourself :-)

cheers
